Alright hope someone can help,

My parents have a BT line and the phone wire comes in at the window, recently they had double glassing put in and a month after that a fault appeared on their line and i called out BT to sort the fault and they discovered it was a brake in the wire at the window, now BT have sent a bill for £180 for repair of the wire, when i spoke to someone when placing the call for the fault the lady said if it is a fault with the phone they would have to pay and any fault from the phone socket back its BT fault,

Does anyone know if this is right?

They are right, The fault on the line was caused because someobody physically damaged the cable which in turn lead to a fault occuring!

They are correct billing you for the repair, if i was you i would look at contacting whoever installed the windows and pass the bill on to them.

Yes - unfortunately the double glazing contractors were contractors under your parents employ. The fault is clearly not BTs responsibility so they would be in the right for charging for the repair, and your parents would have good grounds for passing the bill on to the double glazing company.

Depending on how reputable the company is they should have insurance to cover damage their staff cause. Unfortunately the words 'reputable' and 'double glazing' don't often get put in the same sentence

In fact, they're my second favourite oxymoron.

My first is trustworthy politician.

My telephone line broke from outside of home and BT charged me £99 for that..

I did not know that until i checked my online bill. Called up BT after 8 months, told them the whole story as it wasnt my fault so they credited £99...
