Poorly Humax - tuner problem.

Been having some strange problems with the Humax 9200T crashing over the last couple of weeks and pretending it had a bad signal, which would rectify itself by power cycling it. Today I found out what the problem is I think...

Previous lockups have been when trying to record two channels at once and as a result, both recordings have failed. Today SWMBO said the box had crashed when she changed to BBC1 from ITV. At the time it was recording ITV4 Reservoir Dogs. Now, it sat there with "No/Bad Signal" on the screen on BBC1 which it has done previously when locking up but it hadn't crashed. I pressed the play button and it showed ITV4 was still recording. I stopped the recording and BBC1 reappeared.

Hmm, it's behaving like it's only got one tuner I thought. So, to test the hypothesis I rebooted the box and then started recording ITV4 again. Nothing off any other MUX is viewable so it looks like it has a dead tuner. I looks like my antenna pass through failing the other day was an omen after all.

Is it still in warranty?

It's 15 months old so it's time for a call to Humax in the morning. 2 year warranty isn't it? How long do they take to repair/replace the unit under warranty?

My machine failed last December when it was just two weeks within the warranty period. I phoned Humax who emailed me a warranty return form. I emailed that back and they replied the same day (Thursday) with a suggested day the following Monday to collect it - they gave me the choice of swapping it out or repairing my own unit.

I opted to have my own unit repaired and the carrier duly collected it at 1030 on Monday morning. I was astounded when the carrier returned at 0720 on the Wednesday morning with the repaired unit.

Service like that can't be beaten.

Just filled out the warranty form and emailed it back with a proof of purchase. I just remembered, this was the second unit we had as the first one died after a couple of weeks (locking up every 20 minutes). Hopefully it'll be third time lucky and we'll get a good one.
