The worst hi-fi (or rather lo-fi) I ever had was a Schneider all in one system. I begged and begged my mum and dad to get it for me because it had loads of flashing lights and switches. This was about 18 years ago though...LOL...I think my dad may still have it. I have had many dire systems since - My forst crap CD deck was one of those appauling DiskDeck thingies. Can anyone remeber who made them? It was laid out horizontally and sat on a pole so you could sit the speakers underneath. I sold it to my local pub a few years ago. I got £50 for it. I think it only cost me £150 back in 1989.

I have had various bits of Pioneer gear since then. For some reason I have always been impressed by Pioneer hi-fi seperates. I am currently running a Pioneer THX Amp on my AV system. Saving up for the THX speakers at the moment.

I was introduced to the wonderful world of "Naim Audio" last year by a friend and bought some second hand gear of eBay:

Naim Audio SNAPS Power Supply
Naim Audio NAC 42 Pre-Amp
Naim Audio NAP 110 Power-Amp
Rega Planar 3 Turn Table
Castle York Speakers

I already had a decent Rotel CD Player that I had got as a bargain a few years earlier.

In total the gear cost me around £700. All the Naim Audio equipment is around 20 years old. If I was buying the equivalent Naim gear brand new, it would be costing me in the region of £9K at todays prices. I cannot recommend the Naim Audio hi-fi equipment enough. If you have £500 to spend on a new Amplifier, forget buying any of the Japanese stuff. Spend the money on 2nd had Naim gear (made in England) and you'll never regret it.

I once owned a Panasonic midi system without CD. So I bought one for it (there was a place to plug one in on the back). I decided on a Sharp. It worked well for 10 months, but then things started to go strange. When I put a CD in the drive, it disc would not play (or do anything). The only button that would work was the Open/Close. Some times, taking the disc out and putting it back in would get it to play. Gradually, it got worse and worse, and it refused to play any cd's. Sent it back under guarantee. Waited many weeks (over a month), before they sent it back. There was a report sheet with it, that said "no fault found". I plugged it in and it worked! - but only for about 2 weeks, then it wouldn't play discs again. Junked it eventually, and bought a cheap little Sony CD player to replace it.

These days, I use a NAD C320 amplifier, B&W 601 speakers (bi-wired), Sony 701 DVD/SACD player, Sony AM/FM tuner with roof aerial, Sky Pany 31 box, Sony VHS (on it's last legs), and Sony 24" Trinitron Widescreen tv.

It was a Hinari DiskDeck - I remembered this morning when I woke up. The thing was terrible. It still gives me nightmares to this day

My worse cd-player was actually my bush hi-fi system. After 3 years the LCD's died (FM and CD - seperate ones), then the CD randomly jumped between different parts of the tracks, before eventually giving up the ghost.

I like my Aiwa system - 3 cd tray, works with RW discs
so perect

Aiwa building a PC with AOL , that would mean the CD drive would never work which would be good for AOL as then rival internet discs would never work meaning you would be stuck with AOL and a slow internet connection
