Update to new version 1.13

No. I don't know what the update is for yet. I will post if and when I find out.

It is hoped it will deal with the EZ27 'Freezing with Guide in the display' problem... but it remains to be seen.

Sod it, means I'll have to reset all me timers again.

I am on holiday next week, was hoping to use the panny to record some progs whilst away - do I take it from your post (experience) that I shouldn't rely on the panny??

When you set the update going it wipes the timer settings. Does not touch them if you don't tell it to update. Not too sure how it would work if you were away. I would guess that you would just miss the update. You could always turn off the auto update feature I guess.

My machine has just updated and kept the timers this time.

It only effects timers if there is a direct conflict.

An update, if happening, takes priority over a timer programme.

Good indeed.This is the first Panny I've had that hasn't had to do a full reset after an update.

Another point to note is that this one can't have the auto software search switched off, although it does give you the option of downloading or not. It also took a lot longer than the suggested 5 minutes.

After the last update I lost all the timers when I went ahead and installed it. It did give a warning of this before hand. If I remember correct it was to add new channels into freeview, I think. This one does not seem to have changed anything (sure it has somewhere)

Ok scratch the above, it has just came up on screen saying that a new DVB service has been found and warned that changed profiles and any timers set will be lost. Oh well can't have it all I suppose

Just as well it is so easy to set the timers from the guide.

I have been away for a few days, during which time my Panasonic EX77 was left on standby.

Please can anyone advise me if there is a way for me to ascertain whether this update has been downloaded successfully? What do I do, and what should I be looking for?

I think when you first switch it on , had an update occurred, you would have received a message saying so.

That you have not suggests one has not occurred.

But you can check the version of DVB software you have... The last version was 1.11 .. This latest download is V1.13

If I remember correctly ... you will find it in somewhere like :
Functions / to others / Setup / Others / System Update [ If not there have a look in tuning ]

It will say something like : DVB - T V1.11


There should still be time to force an update if it has not happened.

Invoke 'Software Update search now'... which will be in the same area.

Unfortunately I missed your warning last night, Gavin.

However, all is well. By following your advice at post #11, I was able to ascertain that the update was received OK. Thanks again.

As an aside, you may wish to know that when I first switched on there was no on-screen notification of update having occurred.

Tip for other EX77 / EX87 owners: If, like me, you didn't know about this updating business, see page 68 of your manual. It explains about software updates and EPG downloads, including how to set your machine to receive updates automatically and during which four-hour time slots; I have now opted for 0200-0600, to reduce the chance of accidental manual interference with the process.

Incidentally, I note that it says: "If there is a programmed recording set for the time you have selected, the programmed recording will be given priority."

I hope this is useful to my fellow newbies.

Thanks for that information John. I must say I am surprised... Is it possible there may have been a message and you missed it? - Switched to other things perhaps?

As it turns out, the download is to be repeated from the 10th to the 17th March.

Just for your information, Gavin - I have been using the machine for a couple of days now with no message being received (see above), although I have confirmed that the update occurred.

But when I switched it on tonight, bingo! Up came the 'DVB' message.
Strange.
However, I shan't lose any sleep over it.
