wifi signal on the tube?
Anyone ever got a signal on the tube before? its only happened a copy of times, (cant remember exact location) but as i was flipping through my phone looking/reading emails i have noticed a weird wifi/connection icon only for a split second.
Will try and note where on the tube it was, but it was as i was sat on the train moving.. as if picking up a wifi/subspot hot spot. i assume staff must have something, but i dont think it was a wifi icon, god. i cant even remember now but has anyone had anything like this? |

It could be a number of things:
On sub-surface lines, it could well be 'leakage' from nearby offices, stations or cafes etc... On deep-level lines it is unlikely to be from them sort of sources, could well be someones laptop acting as a wifi connection, there is a lot of work on the tubes radio system at the moment as airwave is rolled out on the tube, you would not pick this up on a normal mobile phone as you need a TETRA phone for this to be picked up. Let us know when and where your picking this up and I will look into it for you. I have access to different parts of the tube and could well confirm what the signal is. |

This is something that they've got cracked abroad. In the last year i've used my mobile on underground trains in Lisbon, Paris and Barcelona without break-up of signal. The London tube is hopeless. They need to sort this out, or we will get further behind.

One of the lines (Waterloo and City) is either fully kitted out with signal relay boosters, or there are plans to do it very soon. This is because its the shortest line in the Underground (only two terminus stops) and its all underground.
