I've had a veg box delivery for the past 3 or 4 years. Initially no-one did them in my area so I had to use Abel & Cole who delivered via parcel service. I have a large mixed box every two weeks, costs £22.00 which may seem expensive, but you get 14 different items (you can have likes & dislikes so you never get something you don't want) and lasts us pretty much the fortnight (with a few extras from the supermarket.
Overall, I've been really pleased, the quality is excellent, Abel & Cole are a fabulous company to do business with and now they have a depot locally its even better as I can buy additional items from them.
I think for the quality and variety of fruit & veg, the box scheme is better value than the supermarket. If you're lucky enough to have a decent farmers market locally then this may be your answer to something more reasonably priced. We have quite a good one in Birmingham city centre but sadly weekdays only during working hours!
One thing to bear in mind with the cost - is the taste! You get what you pay for and I am absolutely 100% certain that my box scheme fruit & veg tastes far better than anything you can pick up from a supermarket shelf.
