So. James cycles from Los Angeles, to Oregon, to New York and then down to Florida.

And they have the cheek to call this 'bicycling around the WORLD?'

Oh my, I do despair...

No he is still bicycling around the world, he hasn't finished yet, he's taking a break out to go on BB and he's carrying on when he gets out.

He's not bicycling around the world until he's got to Vietnam as far as I'm concerned...

Yeah but it's "bicyl-ING". They've not said "He's BICYCLED around the world", it's an on going project that he'll be carrying on when he gets out.

Yeah but with that logic, I could claim I'm Jonnythemoose, 'swimming the English channel, and ending world hunger'. I've bought my swimming cap and my goggles, I just haven't set off yet...

Suppose if you want to be pedantic. But James has actually started his mission and is obviously serious about doing it. That's my thought anyway.

It's called the World Series because when it was originally set up it was by a newspaper called The World (or something like that) and they sponsored the competition so it was called the World Series.

Glad that bit of knowledge has finally come in useful.

Hate to tell you this, but that bit of knowledge you've been storing away all this time is just an urban legend.

The original championship was known as the "Championship of the World" or "World's Championship Series", this was shortened to "World's Series" and then finally to "World Series" and had nothing to do with a newspaper or magazine.

See here for details.
