I would imagine o2 allows the same

Some networks allow this, but manage it differently. O2 perform an external credit check for each phone you take out with them. Orange on the other hand will perform an in-house credit check (good payment history, dd set up etc).

have you already got one contract with 02 and want to add another or are you looking to start 2 contracts at the same time?

If its an additional one you want to add then id assume providing you been paying your bills on time and have had it for at least 3 months then i wouldnt see a problem. If its two starting at the same time then it depends on your credit rating as to if they will let you.

im looking to start 1 account with 2 contracts - both under my name - but one will be for me and the other for my wife. if they do not let me do this, can i take out multiple contracts with o2? also, do i need additional id?

Then it depends on your credit rating. If thats ok i dont see why they wouldnt let you have 2 lines in your name.
