Samsung DVD-VR350M
My dad currently has a telewest cable box and purchased this DVD recorder, to replace his old VCR and DVD Recorder. He has managed to scan in the freeview channels but cannot seem to pick up the cable box, any ideas?
He was hoping to be able to watch something on his tv on the freeview part of the recorder, while recording sky sports from the cable box. I have posted this on another website forum but no one has replied

I think the problem is in switching between analogue, digital and the AV inputs on the Samsung.
Tuning: Is the cable box connected to the Samsung with an aerial lead? If it is then press the DTV/Analog button on the remote to switch to the Analogue feed from the cable box. Then tune the Samsung so it picks up the ordinary analogue TV stations (BBC1, BBC2... etc) and the RF channel from the cable box. It's probably a good idea to put the cable box on Menu so you can identify the channel easier.Watching: Pretty much the same as above.Recording: This is where things might get tricky. On P66 of the Samsung manual it says:There's a lot of switching and button pressing for your dear old Dad to do, and chances are there'll be the odd screwed up recording. That's what happens when you have a one box solution like the Sammy trying to do so much. Anyway, I hope this helps. Regards Chris |

On page 65 of the manual is a section Special Recording Features.
This seems to imply you can start it recording on one channel then switch to another to watch on the TV. But what it does not say is if this is by turning off the SCART switch signal so that the TV switches to it's internal tuner or whether you really can feed the DVD's tuner to the TV while recording from SCART. http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...XEU-ENG-BM.pdf Basically the wording is so bad that it is really not at all clear exactly what it can and cannot do. With the majority of DVD recorders I have come across you can only record what you are watching. Be that the internal tuner or from SCART. As soon as you switch the DVD to some other source to watch you also change what you are recording. |
