Alesha Dixon

Had a quick search and couldn't directly find a thread like this, so apologies if I'm rehashing old things.

I have to admit I never even knew that Alesha went solo but I've been hearing her Knockdown around and about quite a lot recently, which I gather is a single she released a while ago which flopped. Does anyone know if it's being re-released? Quite a lot of people in my sixth form seem to like it and although it's not the music I generally listen to, I like it quite a bit myself (apart from the dreadful rapping at the end). What do you all think of it? I've heard Lipstick but I'm not so struck on that one.

Also, any news on an album from Alesha? Would you download anything from her? What kind of music would you like to see her do? I hope she stays clear of the rapping with any future songs.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see her do well! I'm glad that Knockdown seems to be becoming more popular, at least. I like it mainly because you can tell it's her so easily! She's got a bit of a unique voice.

She only went on Strictly Come Dancing because her solo career flopped. I can't see her doing any better now either, wasn't a fan of "Lipstick" or "Knockdown".

Well, yeah. Don't they all go on Strictly to boost their careers? To be honest, I think she may do well enough for the first couple of singles off the back of it but I'm not sure about anything more than that. I'm not that good a judge of popular music. Knockdown at least seems to be growing in popularity now.

Can I ask how you've come to that conclusion? I don't believe it's being re-released and it isn't in the charts or being played on the radio. How is it growing popularity?

Mainly because I've been hearing it played around my town and in my college. The music played in my college tends not to stray far from the 'popular' stuff that's in the charts or from the album of someone like Timbaland or whatever so I just assumed that the song itself was becoming more well known. I'm sure I've also heard it in a few high street shops. So as far as I'm aware, it does seem to be more popular. I certainly don't remember hearing it when it was first out.

What I really wanted to know with this topic was what everyone thought her chances of making a successful comeback were. I think she'll at least manage a couple of decent songs.

Alesha is making a big come back this year. Knockdown is a great song. Since SCD her back catologue of videos have started to receive healthy view count acceleration on youtube. This is why you're hearing it about...because there is interest in her now thanks to SCD.

SCD gets 11 million viewers! Add that to the fact she was nothing short of a phenomenon on the show.

Her new album is due for release in the summer. She is working with some guy from the Girls Aloud camp.

I'm surprised she hasn't re-released Knockdown to be honest.

I think ned a few more listens before deciding if I like it or not.

Nevermind her failed music career and appearance on the bafflingly popular Strictly Come Dancing, I think it's safe to say this fruity sort is most renowned for being John Carew's missus.

I remember playing "Lipstick" to death on my iPod. .
