Hi, I currently have Orange Select Broadband (£20) and want to change to Orange Max Broadband (£24 but currently £12 for first 6 months) which includes line rental but I am still under a renewable contract to BT for line rental until August. I have been looking on the BT site to see how much I would be charged to cancel but have been unable to find out. Any help appreciated.

It's there, but certainly not obvious.

Look in the Terms & Conditions here:

http://www.productsandservices.bt.co...pid=13408#TSST

Scroll down to the heading 'BT Telephony Services Price Terms', and look at paragraphs 38 to 43 ('Ending the Service').

Assuming you took the service on or after 1/5/07 it looks like you will have to pay the lower of £70 or your remaining monthly line rental charges.

When I previously worked for BT (about 2 years ago) we used to only charge about £30 to cancel in the first 9 months and nothing after that, but it may have changed. Why not just call CS and find out?

If you have no call package i.e just the free weekend plan (formerly BT Together option 1) Then the maximum you should pay should be £70 as you will be required pay your remaining line rental up to a maximum of £70. If you have a call package in a "special offer" i.e. the evening and weekend call plan for free, Then you will pay the full line rental and call package price. As the evening and weekend call option currently costs £3.45 then that would be added on to the basic line rental price if you were to cancel. This is because the "special offer" part of the deal is shown as a credit on your bill i.e -£3.45. and they wont give you the credit if you cancel.

Hope this makes sense
