The blockage occurs at the x1, x2 stage - once you get it going it's OK-ish but often seizes up and rarely sets you down at the correct point (Evesham).

Each Freeview receiver has a string identifying its type, software versions for bootloader, middleware, MHEG etc (for some makes there is a serial number). As far as I know the only easy way to see it is to use the BBCi status page.
It would be interesting to see the differences on a box which has the EPG and rewind problems. v3.7 2007-05-12 17:53:13 (was factory installed on a Digihome DTR80) CBTICE310 CABECL310 MHGCAB241 DSMCAB241 /0009df/SlipknotT816UK001.dct37 v3.7 2007-06-21 09:51:42 (manually installed on my Feb '07 T816 via RS232) CBTICE310 CABECL310 MHGCAB241 DSMCAB241 /0009df/SlipknotT816UK001.dct43 As you can see, the "Who Am I" info is identical except for the trailing number. But, the June build has the EPG channel change bug, and also when you exit the guide during playback it returns you to the library whilst not remembering the resume position (i.e. EPG is effectively unusable during playback). Whereas the May build does not suffer from any of these two problems. |

I agree the date/time is more usefull. I wonder if there were minor hardware revisions over the lifespan of the T816 models.

Now is about the only time I wish I still had my T810, just for testing, as I'm sure that didn't have this behaviour.
C'mon, futaura, you're clever, can't you amalgamate the two? Or even the three (including T825)? parthena

Anyway, since the differing software makes things confusing, I'm going to create a webpage detailing all known software versions, build dates and known differences. I'll post the URL soon, and then I'll be asking for you all to help fill in the blanks
. . My next mission is to find a v3.7 May build software file, as I only have the buggy one . I need help with obtaining some of the build dates, particularly for v2.4. If there are other 3.7 versions out there with a different build date, then that would be great to know too.

What's this "Who am I?" string and how do I access it?
![]() ![]() And having got it what does it mean. The only bit I recognise from the examples posted is "T816", though I guessing "CAB" may mean Cabot. Colin Select channel 105 Press Y Press PR+ Press PR- Press G You should then be looking at the Status page with the string in question at the top. The pr+- bit is just a convenient way of changing to another channel and back. As for what it means I imagine it is to correctly identify a given box as suitable for the current oad to be installed. |

To be honest, the build date/time is probably more relevant. But anyway...

Do you know the significance of the UK004 part?
What's the build date/time of your Hitachi's v3.7? |

Not really, no - it could be related to a specific customer/brand/featureset. According to a thread last year, the only T816 ever broadcast did contain UK004. Most people with v2.4 T816 units at that time could not get their T816 to pick the update up. Either the OAD was broken, or it was targetted at Hitachi boxes it now seems. IIRC, the Hitachi wasn't available to buy at the time of the OAD though.

There's a fuller account on Hidden testcard, but here's the short version. Allow a few seconds between pages for the rendering to settle:

Work in progress now at http://www.futaura.co.uk/vestel.html - there are likely to be omissions, typos and mistakes in the current version - I haven't had time to check it yet
. My next mission is to find a v3.7 May build software file, as I only have the buggy one . I need help with obtaining some of the build dates, particularly for v2.4. If there are other 3.7 versions out there with a different build date, then that would be great to know too.As listed in Post #xx I have the Hitachi HDR161 with Software Build V3.7 2007-07-04 @14.22.30. Contrary to the info on your website for this software build, on my unit pressing the OK button on a highlighted current programme in the Guide switches to the highlighted programme channel. Also when using the Guide during playback and then exiting the Guide it does not return to the Library but returns to playback which has continued to move forward at normal speed during the time the Guide was displayed. Although the software build and "Who am I?" info on PTD's unit is identical to mine he does not appear to have the same problems with Rewind that I have. But maybe he and I need to do some identical testing to confirm this. Reference the T816 4.7 software:- I had this version on the 250GB Grundig GUSTB250IV which I had for a short while which I purchased from Makro in early Dec. 2007. The only differences in functionality and performance that I recall from the short time that I had it was that it did not have the archive feature and pressing the OK button to start playback displayed a banner for about 5s before playback started which displayed the programme information in the format of the display used for the archive feature on software versions that have it. I found this delay very irritating. Additional T816 unit. In Makro in mid Dec 2007 I saw a T816 80GB Goodmans GHD8020F2 PVR with Version 3.7 software and manufacture date of 08/07. The external appearance of this unit was quite different form any other Vestel unit I have seen. The unit was all silver and had a very plain convex front panel with just the alpha/numeric display and a standby button i.e. no other controls. I would not have recognised it as a Vestel were it not for the typical Vestel stick on label with the usual info on it. I have a copy of the Makro Mail page with an image of it. I could take a photo of this if it is of interest to you. Colin |

The OK button on my Hitachi T816 on Version 3.7 switches to the highlighted programme. The highlighted programme has to be currently transmitted of course. If the highlighted programme is in the past then a banner comes up saying "A timer cannot be scheduled for a programme that has already ended". If the highlighted programme is in the future then the OK button sets a Reminder. What does the prompt at the bottom of the Guide screen on your unit say for the OK button? On mine if a current programme is highlighted then the prompt says "View" and if a future programme is highlighted then it says "Reminder".

I don't seem to have any problems with rewinding. There's a 1-2sec delay before anything happens, but it plays from the point you stop it at, within say 2 secs. The counter on the other hand does take time to catch up, so there's no point trying to follow that.
The "Who am I?" string for my Hitachi v3.7 is: CBTICE310 CABECL310 MHGCAB241 DSMCAB241/0009df/SlipknotT816UK004.dcf45 Note the underlined differences, unless typos have crept in. Quote:
Thanks for that PTD. Fascinating.

Yes, it was my post. I don't recall anyone successfully downloading it, but it was there nevertheless.

We have units with identical software build and "Who am I?" info so it seems surprising that we have different experiences of the Rewind feature. Yours seems more stable than mine. Does you OK button when pressed on a highlighted current programme in the Guide have the same effect as mine as described in the quote above?
Maybe we could do some identical testing of the Rewind feature to confirm we get different results or not? Colin . I will post any outrageous behaviour that comes up though ( possibly not this thread as the OP is probably quietly fuming at being hi-jacked). 'OK' behaves identically to yours.I believe that my machine's good behaviour is down to me not using search at all. No freezing, no lockups, no corrupt recordings. I've not had to reset it for weeks now since banning search. Before I continue, driveling apologies for a misleading typo; my original 'within 2 secs' should have read 'within 20 secs', which might put a different complexion on things .I have trouble with the likes of Virgin 1 and Five US though which apparently use long gop sequences, probably the heart of the problem in machines with limited memory for frame buffering. But even my Thomson, which normally has impeccable playback, has trouble with these. In general rewind resumes play some 0-20 secs before the place you stop at. I find this something of a bonus as it gives the infuriating now/next banner time to fade before you start viewing. |

The station switching problem from the EPG only usually happens if one is using favorites. If favorites are off, then it should work. It affects the reminder station switch as well.
I had the problem with v2.4 on the T816 (but it only affected the reminder switch). I shall try favorites with my 3.7 box (a replacement due to my 2.4 box knackering completely) to see if it is still there. My box is a Tesco 'Technica' 160g box. |
