The band Nine Inch Nails just released a new album online. Head on over to http://ghosts.nin.com/ to get it right now. It is entirely instrumental and consists of 36 tracks.

The first 9 tracks are free for download, and the whole album costs only 5$(roughly £2.50). You can also preorder the physical album which comes out in april for only 10$ - and also recieve the full album by download right now. Also 2 limited edition box sets for the diehard fans.

I understand that many people will not like their sound, as they are slightly off the beaten track to the usual chart music, but i really do recommend giving this a download(especially the free songs) and if you enjoy them, the full album. This is the future of the music industry people! Money direct to the artist and not to corperate record labels who take most of the profit from cd sales at the moment. So even if you dislike the band, its atleast worth downloading to show that this method of distribution is the future. Personally for me, nin are one of the best bands that have ever existed, and this album is quite different from their usual material but perhaps it may help you to discover an amazing band.

Excellent!! I loved it... although I love their sound anyway! Can understand it will be a little hard for the Rhianna/XFactor/50p audience to digest though

I nearly screamed when this came up on my NIN news feed! (geek... yes.)
I'm so exited, I love how NIN can pull this off without all the hype that Radiohead surrounded theirs with.

Yup. I'm one happy bunny right now!

I love NiN but I do wish Trent would cheer up a bit, he's doing a job many would give their right arm for, he's talented and isn't badly off, his misery grates sometimes

Just because you achieve fame and wealth does not a happy person make! How silly to say he should cheer up! I think they're great just as they are. Very excited about the new release!

Look what happened when Eddie Vedder cheered up?? Pearl Jam went to pot *hides* No... allow Trent to wallow in his misery and keep churning out moody excellence like he does! A cheery Trent Reznor just seems so wrong!

I fell asleep to Ghosts last night.... I really like it!!

downloading the free tracks now. It will be interesting to hear how it is because I've always found NIN best tracks to include Trent's vocals and the instrumental excerts on albums such as The Fragile to be not as good.

I loved La Mer on The Fragile.... Thats one of my favorites from the NIN back catalog.

I heard that the 2500 limited edition $300 packages have all gone! Not bad for 10 weeks worth Mr Reznor!!

Ghosts I is pretty good when listened to as a whole, will have to turn all 9 tracks into 1 continuous one as it sounds better that way. 2 Ghosts 1 has an eery ambient sort of vibe to it.

Still await the alledged rockier follow up to Year Zero

Do ya reckon that will still happen then? Or has Trent moved onwards since the Record Company split?
Hope not, I'd love a sequel. Or at least a high budget television series

Didn't realise about the split from Interscope! In that case I reckon more Ghosts but what it does mean is that the fans will be rewarded with more frequent and easily available and affordable music.

Which is never a bad thing

Of course it means that all that money Trent made yesterday ($750000 on the deluxe packages alone ) goes straight into his pockets.
Take that, greedy label executives!

Y'know... thats exactly where the money should be going! Into the artists pocket... and its great as a fan that I have various options that fit the pocket!

I wonder how he will manage the touring etc with no record label now though.... maybe that $750000 will pay for a tour and a new synth

xx

I was being glib! But in all seriousness, I just get sick of rich privileged people using their misery as currency. I think he's a brilliant and gifted man, and a true artist I just think a broader palette would be an interesting and refreshing challenge. The best artists often have a lot of 'baggage' and it really can feed their work, but there can come a point (IMO) where it's just wallowing and self-indulgent, and it's just a case of lazy adherence to one's 'shtick'. That said, I look forward to hearing the new album, he creates amazing layers of texture.

I still think he should cheer up - perhaps count his blessings eh?

Wow. 6 hours of downloading later, and I finally have the music.
I got the $10 version so I get my music now (Mp3 format with individual song artwork!) and then have a physical CD in April.

If anyone's interested this came to a total of $23.49 (That's with the international shipping.) which, according to my calculations, is £11.82ish. Still cheeper than buying a new c.d. from HMV.

Moral: If you want to download this... Leave plenty of time. Or do it now in the morning while America is asleep
