3 Mobile Internet. Any Good?

Hi all
New to this mobile caper. I'm about to inherit my daughters "old" phone, a 3G LG U880 on the "3" network. What I would like to know is, is the internet service any good? I'm referring to speed of surfing. Could it be compared to say 512k broadband speed? Or is it more 56k modem?
Thanks

Three network is great. I would say it's like 512k but it's a long time since I had that speed at home. I seem to recall the LG U880 being a decidedly naff phone though, so no idea what it will be like on the network. I use a Sony Ericsson K800i.

When you get a download going, the speed depends on the service area you're in.

Standard 3g offers up to 384kbit (although that's what the mast can deliver; it's often a bit less) so you get download speeds of around 20KB/sec.

Problem is, latency. Ping times are around the same as dial up sadly!
