You need to get out more.

I'll probably watch, but buying Aunt Bessie's Home-Style Frozen Mashed Potato is probably something I will avoid.

I have the new Delia book and there are some really nice recipes and useful ideas in there but I have to admit none of the ready cooked potato ones do anything for me and unfortunately they are the first chapter in the book so anybody just browsing and looking at that chapter first is likely to be put off buying it. The lobster bisque with coconut milk, lemongrass and ginger is a wonderful dinner party starter that took about 2 minutes to make. The ricotta chocolate mousse is also a very quick impressive dessert.

It is one of those recipe books where you probably won't make every recipe in it (and let's be honest, which recipe book do we ever make everything from) and not everyting will appeal to everyone but I think there is enough in there to justify me buying it. I think people have let the publicity about the frozen mash and M&S tinned mince put them off too much without looking at it more deeply.

I cook from scratch a lot of the time because I enjoy it but I don't always have the time due to running my own business as well as having a family and home to look after - I certainly don't have more leisure time now than ever!
Sometimes people turn up to visit and I have to come up with a dinner party at short notice so books like the Delia one and Nigella Express are quite handy for ideas on how to put together a good meal using some short cuts. As Delia says in the book, it is not for everybody and not for every day but if it gets some people to try a recipe when previously they would only buy a ready meal or a take away, then it has served its purpose. Not everybody can cook, not everybody enjoys cooking, not everybody always has time to cook.

Not long now - I'm about to have a shower so I can welcome St Delia of Smith without any foul body odour!

It was a nice watchable show (despite some of the recipes!!). Some insight into her life.
Wasn't that shed where she stored all the crockery and remnants of her 35 years of tv cooking, a bit sad? It was as if she never intends to use that stuff again.

I thought she made some very dodgy stuff there.

The bread looked just about OK, and the soup, but the rest looked really unappetising.

I know its convnient and quick to prepare but it would cost quite a bit of money buying all those jars and packets of different things, most people don't have the ingredients she was using ready to hand.

I feel a little bit snooty writing this, but that food was absolutely revolting. Tinned mince? eurgh!

At least delia was typically good fun though:

"Delia was always a matronly sex symbol, her homely recipes winking with vague suggestion at our unrequited lust. These days she’s too wanton for proper recipes. She sluttily throws around ready made tubs of cheese sauce and frozen mashed potato - tickling our betrousered nutsacks like some Oedipal egg whisk."

I thought it was completely rubbish. Worse even than the recent Nigella series, because at least Nigella's food looked quite appealing. Delia's potato/egg/wallpaper paste dish looked horrid. And that tinned mince - ew.
