Just to set the scene im wanting to divert an office telephone number which so happens to be part of apparently 8 ISDN channels so i cannot divert the individual number as its a DDI. Is it possible to get the invididual number ported over to a VOIP company and then do it like that or is there a simpler way?

Does it land on a PBX (switchboard) system? If so there should be a routing table in the PBX that routes incoming calls to individual phones or groups of phones in the office.

If the routing table routes the number you are interested in to a single destination then you CAN divert that phone and all calls to that number will be diverted regardless of the fact it is a DDI number on an ISDN bearer.

If it routes to a group then things could be trickier. You may have to reprogram the PBX to amend the DDI routing. You may even be able to feed in the number you want it to divert to. All depends on how complex the PBX is. Some allow creation of virtual extensions that you can divert just like a physical phone. Send the DDI number to a virtual extension and divert that to wherever you like.

If you don't have a PBX then things get trickier. Depending on how the incomming cals get routed to the phones in the office. Or do they just ring everywhere regardless of incoming number? Which would seem to defeat the object of having DDI numbers if they do?

If the incoming number rings only a single phone and no other line gets routed to that phone then you can divert the phone. If your system allows diverts.

As I say the fact the number is a DDI on an ISDN bearer and hence has no physical pair of wires should be no bar to diverting it. It all depends on how it gets routed once it gets to the office. if it only ever rings one phone then you can divert that phone and that will do the job. Provided your phone system has the ability to divert calls obviously.

The alternative is to speak to your phone provider (BT?). They should be able to re-route any number to anywhere else for you. Though it will probably cost you. But should be a whole lot easier than porting the number to somewhere else just for a divert!

The number can also be ported to a VoIP provider, yes. If it's a BT number

Seems that the PBX here is pretty good i just tap in the number i want to divert it to with a few other key presses and hey presto
