Onion Balls
My Mum is a really plain and fussy eater, I suppose more plain that fussy really and hates the addition of onion to her food although enjoys the flavour ??
Anyway my Aunty has a Ball which you can place the onion in whole and add to your cooking but cannot remember where she purchased it Does anyone on here have any idea where I might be able to get one, I've tried the Lakeland site and ebay but to no avail. Thanks |

You can get the same effect by simply using a whole onion in the sauce! Or half it. When peeling the onion, leave the root on. After peeling the skin, cut the brown rootstock off but not so much that the onion falls apart.

You can use leek as an alternative to onion in most recipes. Try it and see what Aunty thinks.

Thanks for the suggestion of the whole Onion - I'd not given that a thought myself.
As for the suggestion of leaks my Mum hates anything like that so that wouldn't help - This is a woman who removes it from stew whilst eating even though it's been boiled within an inch of it's life! |

Both the onion and the leek you can remove before it hits her plate. Since you said your mum likes the flavour, to influence the sauce.

I suppose you could place the onion in a piece of muslin tied with a bit of string!

Just blend the onion up into a pulp so she can't see it - that's what I do with my husbands fussy 8 year old son.

Yes, I also find grating the raw onion on the finest grater means that when it cooks it practically vanishes
