Multiple recordings numbering

You know how the toppy names all recordings and adds a number after it if that name has already been used?

Mine at the moment is doing strange things. Over the last few days there have been recordings in the list suffixed with a 3 or a 4 when there have been no other recordings with the same name previously recorded.

I do know how it normally works, and has worked properly for the last six months.

Anyone else had this problem, or know of a cure please?

Any TAPs installed? Is it just on a similar programme? Have you connected to your PC to see if you can see anything odd in Altair?

Hi. No TAPS installed, and not ever connected to computer.

They weren't similar programmes but the same.

For instance, we always record Damages on BBC1. When we attempted to watch the episode from this week it was named Damages_3 - but there were not two others on the drive. Similarly last week it was Ice Road Truckers on Five. Last friday's episode was named Ice Road Truckers_4 despite there not being three others on the drive!

Sorry, I didn't mean the programmes were the same. I meant the problem was the same on different programmes.

IIRC, the filename is set when you create the timer, so if truckers-3 is in the recorded programmes list, it'll give the timer a filename of truckers-4 which will remain even after you've watched and deleted truckers-3.

Yes, although it'll also check again when it starts a recording, which will explain why you can sometimes get "truckers-2-2".

I just wondered if anyone else had had this problem.

I will say it again - there were no other recordings in the file or on the drive with the same name! I had NOT deleted them, and I know how it works when it works normally.

You clearly will have had other recordings on the disk with the same name at some point. As stated above, the Toppy will chose the filename when you set a timer based on what's on the disk. It'll then modify the filename again if it needs to when the recording is about to start. With the 8 day Freeview EPG you can, theoretically, set two timers for a weekly programme in one sitting (today/tomorrow's and next week's).

Out of interest, which firmware version are you using?

My relatives are starting to get a similar issue on an Aussie 5000PVRtBP: recordings are appearing in the list labeled recording-2.rec for example but they can not be played or deleted.

The description line for the *-2.rec is blank, whereas in standard recordings, there is always some information.

Whilst I can't gurantee these aren't repeat recordings, I'm baffled why they are appearing and can't be accessed.

Maybe it is a similar issue to that of the OP.

I've had a similar thing over the last few weeks, when I could not understand why a programme did not record.
Yesterday I went to copy some stuff across to the computer and discovered the missing programmes were there but instead of being suffixed .rec they were .recE4
A simple rename in Altair solved the problem

I have set our other Toppies to record the programme this week, (Rick & Steve) to see what happens....

Or perhaps I just have a homophobic Toppie
