chipped screen on iphone

I have o2 insurance and my 16gb phone is obviously within 12 months warranty and it has developed a chip on the glass screen which is getting bigger. How do I go about getting it replaced? How fast will I get a replacement? I will be covered by the chip/crack?

I doubt it would be covered as part of the warranty - a 'chip' as you call it does sound like accidental damage on your part rather than a manufacturing fault.

Be sure it's not a 'bubble' too. There has been talk of iphones and touches recently developing bubbles in the LCD screen and Apple replacing them free of charge. However that's happening under the surface rather than on it like you've described.

You should have all the answers for yourself in terms of your insurance. Your policy should outline what it covers (accidental damage etc).

Take it to your nearest Apple store, though I fear the worst for you...

perhaps the o2 insurance covers accidental damage (if that is what has happened)

Its not accidental damage as its been in a case for the entire time I pulled it out and its developed a crack.

then it's defective and you should return for replacement or repair under the warranty.

If I take it to an o2 retail store and I have insurance will they replace it there and then even if they deem it to be accidental damage?

Like I said - check your insurance policy. It will tell you what is and isn't covered.

In all honesty to suffer a crack it must have taken some sort of knock or bend. I've not heard of iphone screens cracking on their own. I'd still give it a go with o2 and see what they say if your insurance doesn't cover it though.

EDIT:

This new 'Google' thing is great:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...e+Search&meta=
http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/insurance

So you're apparently covered if they don't class it as accidental. Pay £25 excess and you get a new iphone.

Can you exchange the phone as its less than 3 weeks old at a o2 retail store?

You're going to have to take your phone in regardless so ask o2.

im sure o2 will say it must be sent away and checked and repaired, very much dout they will give you a new one in shop, your phone will be repaired or if they cant repair it you will get a new phone, takes about 2 weeks, been through it many times but if you return it to the shop you got it from they might exchange it as its only 3 weeks old,but if the phone came direct from o2 it will have to be sent away,im sure.they will give you a replacment phone in meantime but not same model

A chip is almost always user damage, how can a screen chip without you doing anything to it?

You will be covered under your iPhones insurance. Assuming your insurance is with O2 and not with carphone warehouse the normal procedure is for you to call customer service - 202 from your handset or 0870 600 3009 and they will transfer you to their insurance department.

For accidental damage the insurer will arrange a doorstep swap with the courier - the courier will bring to you your new handset and will take away the damaged handset (you keep your accessories). There is an excess of £25. This is normally next working day as long as you call before 4pm.

If you say it is not accidental damage you will have to take it to an O2 store or apple store where they will return it to apple for repair. If apple decide it is user damage it will be returned unrepaired to you, there may be a charge for handling. If apple decide it is guaranteed under the manufacturers warranty you should receive your repaired handset within 3 working days.

All of this information is in your O2 contract T&C and your Insurance T&C.
