The really interesting thing is that it didn't go into any real detail as to what else will be in 2.0, it just highlighted the enterprise stuff and that developers would be able to make their own stuff - not what Apple would be adding. Jumping to 2.0 you would expect something new from them.

The chip supplier they currently use does not have 3G chip in its portfolio, thats the only reason.

You are simplifying a very complex issue.

Find me another phone with a battery sapping 3.5" screen that is super bright and doubles up as a great media player that people will actually use as a media player but still with better battery life than the iPhone. Its not about 3G or not 3G. Its about 3G + people using it as an iPod + people actually browsing the web for significant lengths of time. My N73 lasts about an hour of using the web with 3G before dying. This is without listening to music.

“Why didn't apple include 3g and give the user like on any other phone the option to switch it off if not needed?”

I am not in a position to call why Apple make their decisions, but I think the above would have played a huge factor in its inclusion or not.

Quote:
“And the size issue cant come into play here as smaller phones seem to manage to fit them in.”

Again, you cant simplify it as a matter of size. If you check the teardown photos of the iPhone it is a pretty damn packed device. Not much can squeeze in there. You have the sensors, the WiFi and a fairly large battery which don't traditionally come in most phones. And those that are feature packed, like the N95 are quite thicker than the iPhone.

Engineering is a matter of compromises. You really can't just throw the best of everything into a device and expect it to run as smoothly, have good battery life or look as good as the iPhone. The different models out there are defined by the compromises they make.

These new announcements look great. Especially now you can fully sync with an exchange server. That in its self is fantastic for me, because my main email account is an exchange account. I've been having to run 2 accounts, one for my iPhone and one for main.

I only have one complaint, why is it that people who do not like the iPhone, have no interest in it, etc, etc. Feel the need to go into an iPhone thread and start complaining.

Dont like the phone dont go in the thread, simple as that.

And before anyone says well your only saying that because your a mac fan, i actually use vista as my operating system. I just like the ipod and iphone products they are good.

Just used it and WOW congratulations to the BBC, stunning application.

ITV can't even get their shows to work on a macintosh let alone an iPhone.

Yes it's full screen - just rotate the iPhone on it's side

I work in the mobile industry, and as such iPhones are of interest which is why I read about them. Just because I haven't been duped by the hype does not invalidate my right to an opinion.

Again this is where push email could become a problem, emails without attachments fine, but imagine downloading an attached pdf of 2-3mb on edge it takes a long time trust me!”

I hate to respond to such a troll but...

This is such an ignorant argument. My work Blackberry operates over GPRS in the UK and EDGE in the US. I don't see any practical difference in performance of push email, using the Blackberry browser or viewing attachments. It's all usable. None of it is 3G.

To begin to suggest that a non-3G device cannot be used for these things because of a lack of throughput affecting usability and performance is to ignore the fact that untold millions of corporate Blackberry users are doing this every day the world over.

How and why should anyone, anywhere trust what you post ever again? Are you, like, 10 years old or something?

Don't forget the Blackberry won't push all of a large email to the device though.

hardly .... but your post suggested those of us who bought iphones had been duped. which i take as a slur on my intelligence. i replied to you quite gently, but my first instinct when you said in the same post that you worked in the "industry" was to remind you that you work in a shop. but i refrained. until now since you added aggressive to the insults.

personally i find your consistent anti iphone stance quite tiresome (particularly the constant demands that all comments about iphone be kept to one thread) but you are, of course, entitled to your opinion (to which i attach the appropriate weight given that you're employed by orange). however, you are not entitled to suggest that we've been duped or are aggressive simply because we made different choices to ones you have made. you have perfectly valid reasons for your purchases, so have we.

I am not anti-iPhone. Indeed I have praised elements of it in these very fora. However, reading many of the posts about it one is led to believe that it is THE panacea of the mobile phone world. The reality is that it is not.
Now I own an N95, a Pearl and a Curve. All of which are brilliant machines, yet I would never indulge in the kind of phone-orgasm about them as people do about the i-Phone.
It is not the best phone in the world, or the most advanced as Apple claim. No one can claim to be the best. I do find it very strange that a portable device is bought by folk who so very vehemantly feel the need to defend it at every opportunity. I don't see Viewty, Curve et al owners getting so out of their tree do you? What is it about the iPhone that makes you so passionate? Guess what - it's a phone!
