Play.com Sale

I just thought I'd let everyone know that Play are doing an "every sale item's a fiver" sale. I've had a quick look through the CD section and there's a lot of good stuff, might be a good oppurtunity to flesh out your back catalogue colletion.

Highlights for me include Disintegration by The Cure, Mezzanine by Massive Attack, Sigur Rós's ( ), Agaetis Byrjun and Takk..., and Radiohead's OK Computer, Hail To The Theif and The Bends. I was in an HMV shop the other day and they still charge well over a tenner for OK Computer

Aye, im so pleased with it. Managed to get Paramore's All We Know Is Falling for £5, I wasnt gonna pay £9 for it when that was more expensive than RIOT! ...

HMV are the biggest jokers going. £16 for Tracey Thorns Out Of The Woods CD or £6.99 on itunes? & then they wonder why they are not selling much. Still cheaper to raid the charity shops & independants like Vinyl exchange & get stuff on vinyl.

HMV have no idea as to how to generate sales. Dont cut the prices on obscure stuff , no just keep charging full dollar. I mean £16 for PSB's Disco 4 or £2.99 on ebay, the mind boggles. Everything i want is top price, hence why i havnt bought anything from HMV for yonks.

People actually charge money for ANY Radiohead album? Surely not!

One thing HMV have done which hasn't been very endearing recently is they've copied Virgin and now, if you want to get student discount, you have to get a separate student discount card from HMV. They won't accept a standard NUS card anymore after years of doing so.

What a daft idea!

One thing in favour of HMV though is hmv.com - it's based in guernsey, it's free delivery AND the prices are very good - in a lot of cases, 75% less than what HMV in store prices will be. Play.com has been more expensive for certain things but it's all about shopping around - sometimes amazon is cheaper than play etc. etc.

The worst thing about my local HMV store is that you'll find the same CD littered about the store and it will be marked up at different prices! Say it's Radiohead's "the bends," It'll be in the "sale" bit for £4.99, underneath "R" it'll be £13.99 and then you'll find it somewhere else for £7.99" - the same album (not special edition or anything) but three different prices.

That's because the store get so many copies delivered in to sell at a particular price, while others must be sold at RRP.

So they'll have, say 500 copies in store which HAVE to be sold at £4.99 or whatever, and the rest are to be sold at regular price.

Exactly. If you look online say at Play, at HMV, at dvd.co.uk and at choicesUK.com, all of which do cds and dvds etc then you get the best deals, after a bit of research. I've just bought, via a link in the HMV email newsletter, the Complete X Files dvd boxset (all 9 series) for just under sixty quid, and the dvd boxset of all of the Planet Of The Apes films for under nine quid.
