if he's a 'hero' the the Stranglers had it right with "No more heroes"...

his theme song should be ian Dury's "what a waste"

What about his own song 'What a Waster'? Actually, I think he's pretty good. The last Babyshambles album was one of the best of the year.

Ignore all the tabloid rubbish about him and just listen to the music.

have done - think it is overrated, but that's just my taste - the Libertines stuff seemed OK, but that's about it - as for his behaviour, like Amy Wino, for me it gets in the way of judging him fairly. AFAIK babyshambles got kicked off the tour by Oasis, which isn't much of an endorsement.

As have I.
A lot of his fans say "listen to the music", assuming everyone is just judging him on the fact that he's a tabloid whore and a junkie tw*tbag.

Not true, I've listened to his music and he isn't just a junkie tw*tbag... he's a talentless, tonedeaf, junkie tw*tbag.
Amy Winehouse I actually think has some talent and real potential, so I'm not just letting the tabloid stuff get in the way either.

Hopefully she'll be able to come clean and do well. Coudn't give a toss about Doherty as he's only still in the public awareness because of his drug taking.

As for the NME, well it's just a load of pretentious bollocks anyway. Doherty's win was about as predictable as fish in a chippie.

What made me laugh is how Pete won hero of the year, but Amy Winehouse, who is no worse habit-wise, was up for villain of the year.

'The Drugs don't work' - The Verve
'Another Prick in the Skin' - Pink Floyd
'Fixxxer' - Metallica
'All I am Living For (is my next Fix)' - Evanescence

I could probably go on all night, suffice to say I think they guy is a waste of space. I have no idea how he was named Hero of the Year, but it just shows how twisted and sad the British music industry has got.

Well if he's the sort of person we are supposed to admire and consider a hero it sure explains why our society seems so buggered at the moment. The NME should consider that all they are doing in perpetuating the false idea that creative people need to be screwed up and on drugs to do their best work, which is absolute nonsense and very damaging.

While the NME is a load of old arse, Pete was rightly named hero of the year. Certainly one of my all-time heroes, whatever the year, and I'm proud to be an 'inked' Libertine.

Amy Winehouse, on the other hand, is quite vile.

My 9 yo daughter read this thread. She agreed with most of the comments. After drinking a bottle of whisky, downing 2 `e` a tab of acid and a puff of a joint she quite agreed on your comment. BTW she loves Amy and only severe parental pressure stops her from having a beehive.

Or, it goes to show that Pete is talented, whereas Amy isn't.

There's a thought!
