DTR160. This morning setup EPG for record 3x30 min programs

2 & 3 ITV 2 back to back

Digihome recorded No1 but did not record 2 & 3.
Checking the EPG 2 & 3 were still marked RED and they were still listed in Timer, but had not recorded.
I'll give it another month, but it looks like a return back to Argos.

That could be an issue with ITV not transmitting the Accurate Recording data erm...... accurately. ITV have been playing about with their signalling recently.

creddish I'm reasonably new to PVR's, but if as you say should it still record something when the EPG program is marked RED...even if the program timing is out ?

I think the way it is intended to work is that if the channel supports Accurate Recording then the broadcaster transmits signals some time before the programme is scheduled to start indicating that a programme will be starting shortly. The PVR should detect this and wait until the broadcaster transmits a programme start signal (this is effectively the change of status of the Now/Next to the subject programme becoming "Now") ignoring the scheduled time information stored in the Guide (EPG). If however, the "starting soon signal" is not detected then the PVR assumes Accurate Recording is not supported and records the programme in accordance with the scheduled time information.

Colin. Understood. So in fact my PVR should have recorded from the indicated EPG in RED even if the timing was a little out.

Reading some the Forums relating to other brands, they all appear to have problems of one sort or another.

Yes the programmes should have recorded. But I have noticed that on some occasions recently ITV1 has not been transmitting Accurate Recording data particularly during the daytime. For test purposes I recorded all the daytime programmes from 10 am to 6 pm on one day and none of the programmes appeared to have accurate recording functioning. You can usually tell if AC was used as the recording times and durations will be slightly different from scheduled time whereas timed recordings will start exactly on scheduled time, or maybe indicate a minute early if the clock on the PVR is running a bit slow which often happens. Also timed recordings will have durations of about 29m 45-55s for half hour programmes and 59m 45-55s for one hour programmes. The duration of AC recordings typically have bigger variations than this.

Tried my first manual recording last night through the timer which worked fine, but could not find away of naming the recording, it just gives the name of channal. I Must be missing something as I can't see an option in the menu to name a program.

Did any of the recordings that didn't work overlap with the one that did? IIRC, others with T825 v2.7 units have reported that sometimes recordings don't get triggered when the unit is supposed to be recording two things at the same time. This never really was a problem with previous software and the T816. That said, I my T816 did go through a stage of missing recordings a couple of weeks ago - the recordings were all set from the EPG and were supposed to record programmes on Five and Virgin 1. On some of the occasions I was in to observe the HDD spinning up at the record start times, only for it spin down again a minute or so later without recording anything. I then turned the TV and PVR on and went to the EPG to find the programme was still underlined in red, yet it wasn't recording. The now/next info on the channel was showning the correct programme. This may have been down to the v4.7 revision of the software that I was testing, which seems to share many of the flaws of the T825 software.

Generally though, I should emphasize at how unusual it is for a Vestel T810 or T816 to miss a recording - despite their quirks and bugs, the one thing that could be said was that they were almost bullet proof when it came to recording (unlike my old Sagem that only recorded things that I wanted when it felt like it). Unfortunately, it seems the T825 software is not so reliable in this regard, which has to be the worst flaw of a PVR. I'll be sending an e-mail to Vestel regarding the T825, essentially suggesting they pull their finger out, because the software really is well below par at the moment.

That unfortunately is a limitation of using manual recording, but it is the only way of adding padding if you want to do that. Personally I almost never bother with padding for that reason. If I have an important programme that I particularly don't want to risk losing the start or end of I just record the previous and following programme on the same channel so I at least have the complete programme albeit in separate bits.

YES, exactly the same situation here. 2X30 min programs (Judge Judy) backtoback on ITV2. No other prgrams involved at that time.

My DTR160 continues to miss the same recordings set into the timer. ITV2 JudgeJudy 10.25-11.25 these are 2X30 mins back to back.
I happen to be in the room today watching and the problem is if I press record it just gives the message (Program Already Recording) when in fact it isn't.
Can't stop this as there is nothing progressing in the LIB to delete, plus can't remove RED line from EPG until the recording time is completed.

For today's program same details I have set it in Manual Timer to see if this is successful.

Just to confirm the program added in the Manual Timer did record the ITV2 JudgeJudy morning program. Why highlighting the same program in EPG has not previously recorded on three mornings is a mystery ???
