I'm with O2, have been since before they became O2 and were BT cellnet.

I've never had any trouble with either contract or PAYG, I've been a contract customer for many years with PAYG in-between.

I find there customer service to be well-mannered and easy to get through, I dont think I've ever waited more than a minute in a queue, and if the advisor I first speak to isn't sure what to do to help then he/she will find someone who can.

I've made insurance claims and warranty repairs/upgraded and cancelled my contract (to go to PAYG as my usage was v. low) and have had pleasant experiences throughout.

I also now have O2 broadband services.

BT Cellnet -> O2

Started on PayG, then went on contract direct with O2 about 4 years ago now. I initially went with them because I live out in the sticks, and we had the choice between O2 (you got full signal as they had a big mast 100 yards down the road), or Vodafone (my father's work mobile was vodafone, and the only place he could get signal then was outside; so the number of times he'd spend a half hour sat in the car on the drive, on a work call was quite funny!)

Now, i'm still with O2 as i've got a good retention deal, plus their signal's always top notch wherever I go. Most of my mates are with them, so my unlimited o2 to o2 calls come in handy! Never had any billing horror stories either, so no reason to leave. I'd be telling a different story if I needed mobile data, as I'll agree that o2's offerings here are pretty poor... plus if you do need speed, their 3G network does leave a lot to be desired. However, as it is, my main use is voice calls and texting, with the occasional MMS, so i've just switched 3G off to save power for now. I guess i'd take out a seperate 3 contract if I needed mobile data!

Recently changed from 3 to Orange, had been with 3 since they first started. I found 3 good with repairing/replacing phones and I had an excellent deal in my last year of the contract. Changed to Orange because I was fed up with 3's signal, but starting to regret it as they have already charged me twice for bundles I didn't ask for !

If £5 evening and weekend Orange World is one of them then is is mentioned on your contract.

I'm with Virgin Mobile.

Been with them for PAYG for several years, and happy with the service, and recently changed to Pay Monthly 300 mins / 300 texts, as last month I put £40 in as top up to my PAYG phone

T-Mobile. My dad got his first mobile phone with them. It was one of these bad boys!

Yes young FMs, there was a time when mobiles had the aerial thingy sticking out of them, and the screen was green. None of the fancy colour screen malarky you take for granted

Because my dad was with them, it made sense for me to get my contract with them as well. Those were the days when calls to other networks were more expensive, so it just made more sense economically.

Have now been with them for 8 years, and have always had excellent customer service from them. Upgraded to the K850i for free, got the phone in my hands 20 minutes ago

I also recently found a Cellnet leaflet in a drawer. It spoke of the charges for receiving calls. I suddenly feel very very old (I'm only going to be 25 this year!).

You could just claim you're American as most work that way over there, where you are charged for receiving calls (they can come out of your inclusive, but they receive a lot larger allowance of minutes).

I like your thinking.

Don't Americans have to pay for incoming texts as well?

I wasn't sure so asked my colleague who we pinched from Verizon and he says they do!

I have always much preferred the UK way, however looking at market trends the US market does a lot less when it comes to SMS.

And PTT is big out there.

What does PTT stand for? I'm not up to date with all these acronyms. I get confused watching ER!

Push To Talk. Like a Walkie Talkie.

Push To Talk.

It never really took off over here - some phones still have it, like the JCB Toughphone for example. I can see the use in Business for sure, especially as that particular phone is perfect for construction work.

However no UK networks offer PTT PoC (Push Over Cellular) so even if your phone has the function you can't use it.

I never said it didn't. None of the UK networks offer it on the handset - but I understand you had yours flashed and debranded.

Heh - I often like to highlight the pointless too, it can be fun!

Having said that, aren't the emergency services Airwaves mobiles operating PTT?

Now that is something I'd have no clue about - I believe they use Military software and technology so all handled by the Government.
