Don't like any of them. They're all overhyped.

Oh wow someone who thinks the same as me.

Well I think 2008 has been a bit disappointing so far overall. Adele doesn't impress me all that much but Duffy definitely does. 2007 was fantastic for British music, I thought the Brits showcased that. British music has not been this good since the mid-90s.

Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Leona and Kate Nash are brilliant.

It's definitely the era of the British solo female vocalist.

You've listed a few good singers who are relatively enjoyable. I like all the those you said. But for real British talent, why don't you look at
* Lostprophets
* The Enemy
* Bloc Party
* Elliot Minor
* Funeral For A Friend
* James Morrison
* Scouting For Girls
* The Wombats
* Snow Patrol

All those have had to work hard for success, and aren't the BRIT committee favourites!
These are the real, raw music talent of the UK!

I can dig amy, lily is okay. Kate nash is a bit rubbish, she only released one listenable song, all the rest is toilet. Leona, no style of her own - I've only heard one song and from that I'd guess from that she is marketed at the US.

Going solely on the artists mentioned here I would actually say we are in a dire state.

Oh do not get me wrong, I actually do like some of the artists mentioned..I just do not think they are much to shout about to be honest.

If you listen to some stuff outside of Radio 1/Commercial radio/the charts you might just surprise yourself.

See that is the problem really..some fantastic European music is released but it would never chart here..so we do not get to hear it.

I tend to think we're a bit more sophisticated than europop.

And unlike the US, we have some diversity.

So I think the UK is doing pretty well at the mo.

My own knowledge of European music is quite limited so I can only tell you about what I like..as I said it is so hard to actually hear the music. Luckily, youtube/the internet makes things a bit easier.

Artists/bands I like:

Sigur Rós
Tina Arena
Yael Naim
Nathalie Simard (not sure if she is still releasing)
Yves Larock (I have only heard a fairly old song by him which was released around 2002/3 maybe?)
Kurd Maverick
Anyway, I suppose this all quite pointless as music is a subjective thing.

The reason that the Beatles are so 'big' in the UK is because it's the only, yes ONLY time British music has really been 'on top' in terms of world sales and genuine cultural influence.
