Hello

I have just bought one of these recorders and I am very pleased with it.

I have 1 question. In the manual it states that it has video plus. It even shows screen shots of the timer with the video plus option. When I tried to set the timer on the actual recorder there is no video plus option!!

I have looked in the set up section of the recorder and even upgraded the firmware but there is simply no opiton for video plus at all!!

Has anyone else got this recorder? Does yours have video plus? Please help!

Thank you

I have the user manual for the DVDR3480/05 downloaded from the Philips website.
Nowhere in it does it mention Videoplus...are you sure you have the correct manual...it's not unheard of for a buyer of a piece of equipment from a high st store to be given the wrong manual if the equipment box has been opened.

From page 28 of the DVDR3480/05 manual...

If it's the "About VPS/PDC" bit...that isn't Videoplus.

PDC is "Programme Delivery Control" and is a signal sent by some of the broadcasters on Analogue to switch on/off the timers on PDC-equipped recorders.

EDIT. We cross-posted.

Usually "PDC" will appear in the recorders display when it's supported by the broadcaster.
Personally I wouldn't use it...In my experience it is a very unreliable system and has been responsible for many missed timer recordings.

Most top manufacturers recommended not using it, as they were getting far too many complaints.

The idea is fine, but in practice it requires the broadcaster to get it right, PLUS your recorder to get the PDC data correctly - and this is highly dependent on your signal quality and the transmitter quality. Works better on main stations, but relays are much worse.
