I have two contracts that are up for renewal this year. My Three contract expires a few months before my Vodafone one.

I contacted Vodafone to see if it is possible to port my Three number to their contract. Bearing in mind the Vodafone is a minimum contract £20 pm, 75 minutes, no texts.

The only way you can do it on Vodafone is to take out a new contract for the duration. Which works out at £20 for original contract and £20 for the new contract.

You don't need to be an economist to work out that you are then paying £40 pm for 75 minutes and no texts!

Anyone tried to port their number halfway through a contract with another network? Did you get the same advice?

When we have had to do that on handsets at work it's a case of

1. buy out the contract (~£140 half way though an 18 month usually)
2. get the PAC number
3. sign up with a new contract on the target network

3 allow you to port in a number anytime into your contract. Most others say you have to do it as you're taking out a new contract. Don't know why they can't do it when 3 can.

You should be able to do it anytime.

Why don't you just transfer the 3 number to a PAYG, at the end of the contract, then transfer it to vodafone when that contract is up?

Long time back O2 offered to convert the contract I was closing to a PAYG sim. Anyone know if Three does this?

I'm interested in Blackberry, that's why I'm looking at losing the Three contract as they only have one QWERTY key pad phone. They haven't even bothered to bring in the model that succeeded it.

3 should be able to covert it to PAYG it is a standard retention offer when all else is lost. Saying that 3 seem to be quite difficult when it comes to retentions so good luck!
