breakup records.

Back in the days of real vinyl 45s, it was customary to send your ex a breakup record, or buy one for yourself.(I'm not sure that has the same effect with a download from itunes.Anyway, you were supposed to play this record over and over until it got scratched, while thinking of your lost loved one.

So what was your breakup record?

One of mine was "no regrets".

Really??
Honestly I've never heard of this being done. I can think of some tracks way back that reminded me of ex's, b*gger if I'd play them these days.

yes really - it was more prevalent in the 50s and 60s, one of the most popular was "its over" - with the line "your baby doesn't love you any more".

The whole point was that you played it incessently for a fortnight, got it out of your system and then never played it again.

Red red wine. Didn't play it, would hear it on the radio. That was before I started listening to radio4, I'm getting old...

That was my main one - I still can't listen to it without getting a lump in my throat.

That and A New Life by Pet Shop Boys...

Ouch, painful memories.

I got two - Why by Annie Lennox and Separate Lives by Phil Collins. Still can't listen to them without falling apart after almost 9 years.

As luck would have it, I was dumped for the first time (beforehand, I'd always chucked 'em first ) the day that the Streets' "dry your eyes mate" hit number 1.

How typical is that!
