Just something that came up in her interview with Annie Mac, which I've just seen because I was watching a repeat of Lilly Allen and Friends.

It says something about something, but I'm not sure what.

Exactly. I hadn't heard of the Cocteau Twins until I came on here, and even now I don't know what their music's like.

Perhaps she is not influenced by the 4AD / Mute / Creation acts that young artists tend to cite as influences. Having said that, when i see Lilly Allen i do think of Pixies!

Thanks for the links. Good to see them again. Saw them live in the nineties.

Liz Fraser has done a lot of stuff for other bands including Massive Attack & Peter Gabriel

What's age got to do with it?

I'm well aware of artists from well before my time.

Jarvis Cocker has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of pop music, which is why I found it so odd that he had never listened to one of the greatest pop records ever made.

The Cocteau Twins are good, but why is it such a big deal if Lily Allen doesn't know who they are? I know she's an attention seeker at the best of times, but when every little thing she allegedly says gets analysed I can't blame her.

To all those who haven't heard of them - check out the links above, they're brilliant! Liz Fraser = one of the best female vocallists ever.

Edit: And these ones are also gorgous... really show off Liz's voice:

They were well before her time, and I know loads of us are aware of bands that were about before we were born, but that's only the ones that still get some airplay etc. today, or music we've heard through our parents.
Can't remember the last time I heard an old Cocteau twins song played.

a few timesi've heard cocteau twins music in the background of tv programmes.
It's a fairly distinct sound, the lyrics were always a puzzle, even if you looked at the written lyrics, then listen again to the song, you would wonder if they were the same.

One of the first cds I ever bought as by them in about 1986. I used to do a wicked John Peel impersonation " and now a session from the Cocteau Twins" One of my fave songs EVER was by This Mortal Coil (with Liz Fraser singing) doing the Jeff Buckley song, Song to the Siren.

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that just because they, and people around them, deem a band to be important, everyone does. It's like NME's 'greatest band ever' lists...
