Recordings list gone blank!!

Hi all,

I pretty certain that this has been discussed here before but I can't seem to find the relevant threads!! It's late and I'm tired ... so sorry if I'm reposting what has already been answered elsewhere...(links pointing me in the correct direct most welcome)

I've had my Humax for about 18months and have had no issues (about 3 or 4 lock ups in that time that were all solved by turning it off and on again )
However this evening was recording 2 programs and decided to stop one recording early because I wanted to pause what I was watching... Stopped recording fine but when I paused it locked up on me. Had to turn it off at the back of the machine.
When it came back on all was fine but when I now go to Recored Programmes it's empty!! It shows that I have 26% HDD space left so it obviously knows there's stuff on the box...

I've tried turning it on and off several times (leaving it off 10mins before turning it back on) but still nothing in the recorded items.

I did a quick record and that shows up in the recorded items list but nothing else. All other functions seem to work ok other than I can't get to my recorded stuff...

All suggestions most welcome as I have loads of stuff recorded and if I loose it all I will be in big trouble with my better half!!!

Chances are that the file system is corrupt and you will need to reformat to recover the lost space. If you are desparate to get the lost recordings back then using xyz321 humaxrw in recover mode would allow you to get the programs onto a PC for viewing or writing to DVD. However this will mean opening the case and potentially invalidating the warranty. See HumaxRW Wiki for more details.

Thanks for the reply Martin.

Looks like I'll be formatting the disk... never connected the humax to a PC before!

After I format the disk is this problem likely to come back?

Is there anything I should be doing to stop the corruption happening again or is it just "one of those things" that can't be avoided!

I wish I knew the answer. This problem has been around for a long time; it happened to us at 1.00.08 but for a long time the consensus view was that it was related to the pre 1.00.06 problems which in my view failed to fit the observed facts. My hypothesis has been that the problem is initiated by interrupted disk activity such as lock ups, power cuts, running out of disk space. Any computer with a non journaled file system is prone to the same problems but on Windows or Linux, file system repair utilities are provided and run automatically if an unclean shutdown is detected. Ideally we should have something similar for the 9200. I also suspect that the incidence of file system corruption has increased since 1.00.21 was issued but whether this is because the new version has added an additional failure mechanism or is just more sensitive to the problem remains to be determined. To answer your question there is little you can do to prevent a recurrence except avoid running out of disk space. That said the number of reports of a single machine suffering the problem twice are tiny. We have gone a year without any recurrence; fingers crossed! Good luck.

Ok then. Well I've formatted the disk and everything seems to be working again so fingers crossed I have no more problems from now on.

Again thanks for the help.

Yep if you look at my thread ''Yellow box with green circle tits up'' you will see what happened to mine. Somewhere in amongst things going tits up i also lost recordings. I was showing the space being used up but there was no recordings there. I did the reformat and all has been ok since. I still love my hummy but perhaps not as much as the bird on Ashes to Ashes

Memory loss(mine) - my follow up post ''3 progs take up 62gb and disappearing'' has the details

I have experienced the same problem last night. This last occured about 18 months ago so I assumed everything was now stable. Have also upgraded my disk to 750gb and this was 60% full and has never been filled up totally. The children are upset about losing all the recent Dr Who series but I am sure they will be repeated again and again!
Seems to be too much of a coincidence, (I don't beleive in these anyway) so I am sure version 0.21 must be to blame.

All seems to be fine now that I've done the format...

It is odd but this is the first upgrade that I've done (to .21 via OTA) and I've had more lock ups and now this recording list issue in the last couple of months that I've ever had on prior version...

Have a look at my post: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...2#post22242002

My machine was doing a similar thing (recordings seemingly vanished but still taking up space), but I seem to have figured out a cause and solution.
