I forgot to take a pre-prepared Tesco Moussaka out of the freezer this morning. It says not to cook from frozen, but I've had plenty of prepared dishes that could be cooked from frozen - you just give them an extra 20 minutes or so. Why is this one different? Can I get away with cooking it from frozen?

Can't you defrost it in your microwave? (always assuming you have one, & the meal isn't in a metal container) then just cook it in the oven as normal.

It's in a metal container. It's not the end of the world if I can't have it tonight, but I'm just wondering what the difference is between this and other similar meals that you can cook from frozen

I don't know......seems weird to me. As you say all other ready meals can be cooked from frozen.

You can cook Sainsbury's Moussaka from frozen so wouldn't worry. Tastes just as good, but tends to get a bit burnt on top if you're not careful.

i wonder sometimes if they cover their own backs by making the instructions so rigid - the frozen chicken i had in a foil container said defrost for at least 18 hours.

I didn't - i only defrosted it for 6 - but nothing happned.

I think you're right. I took a piece of focaccia out the freezer and it advises you to defrost it for 4 hours - it's a piece of bread! Anyway I cooked the moussaka for 40mins until it was piping hot. Lovely
