I like the flying week defo my favourite week. They should do it before the final to give us some more people flying. I'd hav luved to have seen Greg flying!

LOL I would love to have seen Greg flying too! I've never watched dancing on ice before and was really disappointed when I saw they would be flying and the lack of actually being on ice. Seemed to defy the point a bit.

Boring boring boring

I went and did the washing up while the flying routines were on

It's not dancing on ice it's flying over ice

You missed a treat

You're not on your own thinking it has no place in DOI - but Suzanne and Matt's performance has to be the most emotional of all 3 series.

I haven't read all of this thread so I apoolgise if its been said before, but I'd rather see a routine in the final that's based on a traditional latin or ballroom dance and conforms to competition standard ie. no lifts.

I have to say that the flying round does nothing for me at all. The contestants are barely on the ice at all & it's fair to say that females have more of an advantage than males. The impact of the performance has a lot to do with the music chosen for the pairs. It would be far harder to make an emotional connection with the viewers flying to Fly Me To The Moon than Time To Say Goodbye, for example. Although I admit I am a Chris fan, I think that even Suzanne would have struggled with the music Chris & Frankie were given.

I think I would have preferred to have had a favourite slow dance followed by a favourite up-beat dance. It probably wouldn't have made any difference to the final result, but would have made the show more enjoyable for me personally. I think the Bolero round is also getting a bit stale. I would love a change in format for the next series.

I will say first of all that Suzannes flying preformance was the best BUT what a farce it is all flying around and very little dance or skating content. It is designed to make the female look graceful and elegant flying and definately unfair on male competitors. But Chris's was better than Zaraahs as her feet never touched the floor once she was airborn (mind you she has done that all along so no surprise there). At least Chris landed and took off a few times and attempted to look like dance.

Maybe something along the lines of what the above poster said or their favorite slow & fast preformances repeated would be much fairer to both sexes. If it is a competition then it should be fair to all not just females.

The flying remains the chief pointless aspect of the Final, IMO.

It's supposed to be Dancing On Ice, not seeing who can hold the best shapes in mid-air whilst strung up like a Thunderbirds puppet. It holds no bearing to either dancing nor skating ability.

Naturally the female participants will have the advantage of being able to look much more graceful.

tbh I think Dancing on Ice is a misnomer it's more a combination of Ice Dancing, Pairs Skating and Show business. Without the lifts the males get marked down - remember Sean Wilson in series 1 and even Gareth in this series was compared unfavourably to Chris because his lifts weren't as spectacular.

The girls are constantly accused of spending too much time in the air and not enough on the ice - but the lifts are expected of them - so given that both males and females have similar time for training how are the girls supposed to accomplish the lifts and still equal the men on the ice.

I agree completely. The flying and the Bolero were both fun in the first series, and ok in the second, but now they've been done and dusted and should both be put to bed!!!!!
