BT Phone Line down?

There is no dial tone on the phone in my house, and everything is plugged in as it should be. I live in Leeds, anyone having the same problem?

I don't live in leeds, however, the best way to check that your line is working ok is to remove the bottom faceplate of the BT Master Linbox and plug in a known working telephone.

If you hear a dial tone then the fault will more than likely lie with the wiring in your home and if the extra wiring wasn't installed by BT then they will charge you to repair it.

If you do not hear a dial tone then gently blow into the microphone of telephone, if you hear the subsequent blowing in your ear this could indicate a fault with the line.

If you hear nothing at all and you know your phone works ok then its a faulty line.

In any case you can call BT faults direct from a mobile or cable line on 0800 800 151.

But, if you have inclusive minutes to geo numbers on your mobile, dial through either 02002220700 or 02002220900 so you don't pay silly money.

Had this problem with my line, broadband still worked fine though. Found out that Openreach were at the end of my street at one of the cable ducts in the path and my line had been knocked, meaning the connection for the phone was broken, there was a very small gap between the joint!

If you are getting "blow" then you are probably looking at an exchange fault, either a linecard fault or line circuit is held.Either way it will need reporting to your service provider for investigation by BT Operate.

if your getting blow, then it could also be a short circuit in the wiring at premises, causing the connection to stay open, could also be caused by the phone.
