Call Blocker

Has anyone used a product called Call Blocker? (http://www.callblocker.co.uk/)

I have it at home but can't get it to work. All the leads are in the correct ports, but when you dial the home number now, it just rings forever - no callblocker message like you're supposed to get. And dialling out is impossible as you can't get a ring tone. I've unplugged it now obviously, but would like to get it set up at some point. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Dave

£80 just to play a message and ring your bell if someone presses 5?

What an almighty rip-off!

And it will p off all your legitimate callers into the bargain.

I paid a lot less than that on ebay!

But anyway, thanks for your helpful post.

It a lot cheaper than £80 from here: www.optoutuk.com/callblocker.asp?screen_id=intro - I bought mine and had the same issue - these guys give you free support with it and will replace it if its faulty too. You dont get that service from Ebay.

Anyway if you swap the telephone cable with the one supplied with the callblocker and plug that in to the telephone socket then you might get it to work.

It doesnt p off my invited callers coz you can tell em to how to bypass the message!

Its only a recorded message though? I'm sure many call centre staff will hit 5 just out of spite.

I find a more effective way to deal with telemarketers is when they ask to speak to mr/mrs x or 'the home owner' just say "yes i'll just get them......." then just leave the phone for about 10 minutes. Either that or say that the person they're after is dead, that works quite well too.

You may be aware that telemarketers use dialling machines to ring your number. when you pick up, the dialling machine connects you to the next available agent.

Basically the agent doesnt dial the number and the callblocker kicks in BEFORE your phone rings - That means the agent doesnt hear the message AND the dialling machine cant understand the message or press 5.

Here's the link http://www.optoutuk.com/callbocker.asp?screen_id=intro

Hi guitardave, can I ask whether you resolved the problem? I'm experiencing exactly the same symptoms...

Any help gratefully received!

Cheers,

CG.

The dialler dials your number and the machine answers, it's then that the call is passed to the agent and the agent hears the message. Even though your phone isn't ringing your line is.

I was missing a BT female to RJ11 male adapter.

To make it work I had to put the Callblocker cable supplied, into my house phone socket and into the Callblocker NOT from the Callblocker to my phone. My existing cable was connected between the Callblocker and the phone using the adapter.

I phoned Callblocker and they posted me the adapter the same day. Great service.

It works exactly as advertised now.
