Nokia firmware updates on T-Mobile branded phones

I have a Nokia 6120C which is currently on f/w version 3.8 (or thereabouts). My particular phone seems to be pretty buggy (audio dropouts, random crashes etc) and hence I want to try updating the firmware to see if that fixes some of the issues.

Version 4.21 is available for this handset but when I attempt to update with the Nokia update software, it tells me that no updates are available. Is this due to it being a T-Mobile locked/branded handset and them not wanting punters updating firmware themselves?

If its the same as upating the N95 firmware, you either need to wait for T-Mobile to release their version of the update to Nokia, or change the product code of your 6120C so the software updater thinks your handset was sim-free/unbranded.

Thanks - that makes sense of it all!

How would I go about changing the product code though? Is this simply a matter of getting the phone unlocked?
