Can anyone possibly assist with a problem I'm experiencing
on my Panasonic DMR EX75EB.

When playing back a pre-recorded TV program from the hard drive, we occassionlly get halfway through the playback and the sound audio goes. There is no problem with picture quality, only the audio. I'm on freeview and they are saying that the problem is with the recorder, which I feel is possibly correct becouse if there had been a loss of signal during recording we sould lose the picture as well as audio?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Firstly, do you know if this is purely a playback problem?

In other words, is the problem recorded?

On occasions when the sound drops out, are you able to go back and get it back.
Is the sound that is absent from the recording always dropping out at the same place?

Is there any other disturbance, audio or visual at the point of dropout?

If so, the most likely explanation is that it is a reception problem.

Under certain circumstances, if you encounter sporadic glitches in reception, [ usually due to sporadic local interference ] the data can become garbled and can be interpreted as preposterous and dangerous sound levels, such that the micro safety latches a permanent mute line, usually only clearable by a switch-off.

Does it only happen on certain channels? [ ALWAYS note the channel being used when you have problems. It can be a strong indicator of the cause ]

Give the machine a power reset [ disconnect from mains for 10 minutes ] so that you can be assured that there is no garbage data lying around in buffers.
