1. Strictly speaking, this mod invalidates the warranty. With older machines, the mod can be reversed without it being noticeable. Newer machines have a sticker to prevent access to the interior, though it *may* be possible to remove and replace this safely.
2. The length of the IDE cable may matter. (The first cable I got, which was long, did not work, as the hard disk failed to be recognised).”
1. yes, the warranty, that should be noted, of course!
2. aah, the one i have should be fine, what length was the one that failed? is there a known IDE cable length limit?

yes, i can just use videolan to play them on the laptop, for sure, i just upgrade to the latest version of that and it was better than the version i had (naturally!) and it performs very well.
however, i like to make dvd's, so i can switch off my 500w+ noisy pc and watch it on the big tele from the sofa..so i tend to convert to mpg, then to dvd.
VLC converts to mpg seemingly without a hitch (i've only done a few so far) and then i use VSOconvertxtodvd which i really like. it's very fast and tho you can't manually place chapters, you can set one to drop every 2 mins, which i have found is sufficient. before that i used to use NeroVisionExpress, which does an awful lot but is a bit slow. the menu creation is very extensive on that, if that's important to you.
i tend to find that if the program is not that important and i will prob chuck the dvd after watching (or give it to someone), then i just make very basic menu..
why o why humax couldn't have simply set the 9200T to do all this out of the box is crazy!
(no doubt this question has been asked a few times!)
thanks for the replies
