I've got a digifusion fvrt200 and, in the need for a new toy, have loaned a Toppy5800 (also to extend the HD size from 80G to 250G)

but...
i am missing a couple of digifusion functions on the topfield

can i pause say BBC1 (using the buffer) and then change to BBC2 to continue watching something on there, knowing that i can switch back. or say watching music channels i can freeze 2 channels in pause mode and switch back and forth missing out any rap!

also..
can the toppy do one touch record on the program you're watching and grab the whole thing with the buffer?
i noticed that a record clears the buffer too

You only have one buffer, I'm afraid.

It's possible to record the buffer contents, either by rewinding and then pressing record, or by choosing 'Current' event from the record menu. Some TAPs (like ImproBox) let you do it with one press.

that is such a shame as it's a nice peice of kit, with acres of space compared to my fusion. more than enough to implement another buffer.

You just press the Record button rather than the pause button. Then if you miss the start of a non-rap track you can just wind backwards on that channel. The Toppy has a very good implementation of the "chase play" version of "timeshifting".

The timeshift buffer is quite fragile and so on the Toppy you learn to Record the things you want to watch (or timeshift). This will also save you from missing stuff that was more than 1 hour ago when timeshifting (although the Toppy can be made to timeshift 2 or 4 hours).

By default the one-touch record starts a 2 hour recording, from now (rather than the start of the buffer). TAPs like MyStuff may offer a choice in response to the Record button including, for example, starting from the beginning of the current programme. This facility is also available indirectly via the Toppy's Main Menu. But this is irrelevant if you're into the habit of recording the things you might be interested in...
