It's been on the cards for quite a while now, I don't personally believe that it's in the way of anything except big profits. The thing is once these venues are gone that's it, no new build will ever recreate the feeling these converted spaces do, and i'm sure they will not be the tourist draw that the Astoria and similars are.

its a a shame we seam to be lossing a lot of small live music venue. And I love the small gigs/show better that the 50,000+ venues.

Have many fond memories from the Astoria and the LA2, I think of all the great venues we're losing I'll miss this place the most.
Yes, they might be replacing it with a new venue as part of the new development, but they'll never get the atmosphere back. |

Had many great nights there too - on G.A.Y. nights going back to the early 90s.

Never been to the Astoria but it's such a shame so many of the old venues are being knocked down. I hate gigs in arenas and places like the SECC. They're soulless.
