I don't think we have seen a proper teen pop mania in this country since Take That were around the firs time around. By 'mania' I mean with absoloutley hysterical fans screaming and crying and fainting etc and following them were ever they go and causing chaos.

Ive noticed that it sort of happens every few years. Like first you had the Beatles and then a few years later the bay city rollers and in the 80's it was Bros and then Take That in the early 90's. So we are ready for another bout of it now surely?

I think todays teenage girls are missing out on this hysteria. Its like a right of passage lol

Nah, I think Britney killed that whole scene off.

How did Britney kill it off? She is not the first teen idol to go off the rails.

I do think that in the early noughties we were over staurated with teeny pop to the point that you were desperate to hear a bit of rock or rap or anything lol.

Thing is, it always comes back eventually

Hmm, they all appear to have died out and been mostly forgotten about - except The Beatles obviously.

I suspect will die away too.

Probably one will come along - give it like a couple of years I say.

I think McFly are the nearest thing there is to a 'teen pop mania' band at the moment but pop is not as 'in' as it used to be so the so called mania is not to the extent of bands like Take That and The Beatles.

RnB and generic indie took over. All the kids are either listening to how bad life was in the ghetto, or how bad life was in the white suburbs.

I'm a big pop fan and enjoyed many a day when I was a teenager going to concerts, tv studios etc following pop groups. I don't have children yet but if I had a daughter I'd love her to do this like I did - its amazing seeing your idols up close (lol now I sound like a right idiot ) so yeah I really hope there are many more pop groups to come. I can't see it happening in the near future though

Actually i forgot about Mclfy. My friend saw them in concert and said the screaming was deafening. But they don't really cause chaos wherever they go.

^^ Well they can do.

Here is one example of when they were leaving the TMi studios (lots of screaming in this): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF_6xZKjgAw

Totally, I went to see McFly at Edinburgh Playhouse and I couldn't believe the amount of teenage girls screaming, even before the band were on, any time anyone (like a stage technician) came on stage you could feel your ears trying to shut!

The screaming for Gareth Gates was tremendous! Apparently it broke a world record for decibels at one of the concerts. But that was in the early days - I doubt it would happen now!

I sometimes wonder why they do it - surely you would want to hear your idol, not just see him/them?

the problem now is the music snobs would slate any pop band that comes, even if they make good music. I believe A lot of teenagers these take notice of hyped artist as they all seem to be listening to indie music. You may also see influential radio station (*coughs* Radio 1) refusing to play list the songs as a way of showing their distaste.

You know whats weird - only like a few years ago I McFly were playing at Big In Falkirk and were just the little side band to Busted.

How times have changed.

Surely "pop band" and "make good music" are a contradiction in terms...

Those pop acts were just as 'hyped' in their own way. You can't deny how much hype the Spice Girls for one had- and remember how heavily promoted all those pop acts were- they were on so many TV shows all the time.

Perhaps the disappearance of Saturday morning kids TV might have caused them a problem, but those sort of acts were in decline before the Saturday morning shows were.

That sort of music just isn't popular at the moment- it may come back again- trends in music tend to go round in circles.
