Would this be possible? I don't wish to denigrate the musical tastes of others, but personally I find very little in this forum to my taste, other than the ones about guitarists, Iron Maiden, prog rock etc. I'm an old rocker and could care less about Rhianna, Westlife, Sugababes or any of the hip-hop stuff people are talking about, and I have no interest in the charts/X-Factor/poppy stuff that passes for music these days.
So would anyone be with me in requesting a sub-fourm that focusses purely on rock music, ie hevay rock, heavy metal, thrash metal, hard rock etc etc? I know pinning down what's a rock band can be hard to do, but let's be honest, there are "bands" and "singers" here that are very patently NOT rock. I for one would love to stop having to wade through threads about the current "pop" "sensation", or arguments about whether "Umbrella" is better than Britney's latest, and all the games.
I just wanna talk about rock!
Anyone else?

PS Apologies to anyone who's into all the poppy stuff: I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it, it just isn't my style.

Good idea, if they cleared all the quiz or game threads into a quiz/game sub-forum that would make more room for serious music chat on the existing forum though.

Like rock?
Like pop?

try pop-rock! coming to a supermarket near you!

PS
if all the people who know about pedigree music - blues, rock, r&b, soul etc go off - you'll have a boyband/pop forum.

I'd rather have some twerp argue whether the drummer for Westlife is the best ever, than deny that person the chance to hear about Bonzo, Peart, Moone, Paice, Powell, Baker etc - these people need HELP not their own La-la land.

keep the forum for musos and send the plastic pop brigade elsewhere if necessary.

Good idea in theory. Although I can already see it just creating more arguments between all the rock elitists out there.
Every day there would be a thread along these lines:

Topic: What do you think of fall out boy*'s new stuff?

First post: They aren't rock. Please go away. I know everything.

*insert any new, popular, act here.

Ok, that was very simplified, but ya know what I mean.

I do agree with a separate games forum though. that would be nifty.

This forum gets overrun with topics about Girls Aloud, Westlife, Leona!! and all that gash. Other threads just sink to the bottom.

I agree. I like some of the games, but it wouldn't do any harm if they were moved to a sub-forum- they take up loads of space on here.

Can someone in Westlife actually play the drums? Wow

I agree that the music forums are usually full of crap but I don't think having a rock forum would necessarily solve that. Who decides what is 'rock' music?

I agree, what is rock? I mean, you can class Genesis, We Are Scientists, Fear Factory, Venom all as rock and each band is totally different.

Whereas Plastic Pop doesn't have that problem i.e Westlife, Take That, Spice Girls etc

So perhaps a plasic pop subforum is the way to go.

I'd rather keep the forum whole rather than have sub-forums for different musical genres. I would like to see the games moved however, they clog up the front page .

LOL spot on. I can imagine a lot of egos in that forum.

I participate in a forum which is essentially the opposite of this, in that the majority on it are rockers/metallers, meaning that pop and other acts tend to sink to the bottom. Oddly enough though, The Beatles thread remains one of the most popular - just goes to show the widespread appeal that they still hold.

So yes, I'd be in favour of it - it would prevent domination of the forum by a particular genre. I prefer my other forum though as I'm more of a fan of rock and metal than all the pop acts that tend to be discussed here.

That is a fair point. I found some of the biggest Music Snobs ever under Metal videos on Youtube.
I hope nobody on here is as petty as them, but a separate rock forum would attract those kinds of people. We just don't want that.
