Adding a microphone to a DVD player

I'm going to have a party soon and thought it might be fun to have some Karaoke DVD's playing. The question is how can I connect a mic to the DVD player?

It has audio in RCA's, would this do it?

I found something called a Karaoke Mixer on the web, but it doesn't say how it connects to the DVD player. The DVD player is a home cinema type, i.e. player and amp.

Has anyone tried to do this or has anyone got equipment that works?

Thanks,

Tim

I'm fairly sure that you need a proper karaoke machine, as the disks are in a propreitary format and I doubt a DVD player would be able to read them.

Hi Dodgy,

It looks like there are 3 types of disc. CD+G, VCD and DVD. The only one to require a Karaoke machine are the CD+G ( G=Graphic). Check here for a full definition.

If you have a Staples nearby then pop in and check out the Mirror MIRR110 dvd player. Apprently they're doing it for about £54 at the moment. It seems to have been designed for karaoke and it does have a microphone input.
