I just wondered really why Syesha isn't as popular as others in polls and opinions etc? People are even saying that she will and deserves to be the first person to be voted out!

She has a big soulful voice, a nice range - I thought Americans liked this kinda thing? Look at the Melinda & Lakisha from last season, Fantasia etc!

Is it because of her personality? Or is it because others are better/more popular than her?

This is the million dollar question? You raised a very good observation. Partly due to perceived personlity.

Yet, she does have a lot of silent voters especially off-line and on-line who believe that she is very talented. I would imagine a lot of women may say because she appears sophisticated, pretty and confident could be interpreted as arrogant and full of herself. On-line the argument is for 'lets knock her down to size' she is a bitch. This is lethal as that argument spreads like wild fire on forums and the media. I can safely say half of it is green-eyed jealousy. Its because they feel threatened and want her to be vulnerable.

They use her acting background to call her 'fake' which as an older woman myself I cannot see. Her commercial background with Ford agency does not help either as they feel that she should stick to that. Her dress sense and hair is under constant scrutiny because she also comes from a modelling background. She is called 'Screemyesa' on many forums especially by women and young girls because they claim that she screams a lot when she sings-which is just not true.

As for polls they are irrelevant. Jennifer Hudson who I loved was one of the most hated on these forums. But look who is having the last laugh now. I just hope Syesha is not allowed to read these forums she may or may not become disheartened. Its pressure enough been on these shows, but she did sign up to it. However, it does not mean she should be abused constantly every time they see her face or hear her voice and name. This is human behaviour for you.

I dont know why but im every competition there is an underrated singer that deserves to get further than (usually) she gets..

I thought that she was the best so far tonight. I dont think its that she is unpopular its more that a lot of the others are more popular.

I get that vibe to, which is a real shame cos shes my favourite. I hope shes gonna stick around a bit longer, but im not quite sure. I think it might be that she seems to have a diva vibe about her - which actually, I think is more endearing than off puting.

As someone who's rather feels rather indifferent towards Syesha (don't dislike her - or any of them as a matter of fact), thought I'd throw my tuppeny-worth in.

I think she's got a nice voice and delivers a song well. Don't really get the 'diva' tag either, she seems quite sweet. The reason that she ranks near the bottom of the top 12 for me is that I enjoy it when I'm watching/listening to her, but about 10 seconds later I've forgotten what her performance was really like. There's just nothing that makes her stay in my mind or would induce me to pick up the phone and vote for her if I were in the US. Am starting to find the same thing with Ramiele too.

She may come off as too polished to some. She obviously works very hard and is very determined to succeed. She isn't afraid to hide it, or her confidence. This may make some people uncomfortable with her.
She has sung a couple of songs that were slightly too big for her voice, but that may not be by her own choice. She does not scream or screech, although her voice does sound strained and forced sometimes when she is outside of her natural range. That is not a problem though, because she has plenty of useable range to her voice that sounds lovely. But part of her lack of popularity is due to not having performed a song yet that really showcases the best of her voice.
At this point, she hasn't done anything to really stand out, but I think she has the potential to if given the chance.

Vonzell did very well to get to third. She didn't deserve any further than that given the top two.

Syesha reminds me of Nadia series 4, lots of talent and the ability to be very good but always picking the wrong songs. Showing versatility is good but when nobody knows what you're singing from week to week it's going to be hard to build a fanbase that love everything you do.

She needs to start picking songs people know and love, and singing them well.

Oh and no way did Lakisha deserve any better than 4th. The top 3 were all better than her. She put in some really terrible performances.

I totally agree. I don't think she's a diva at all. I just don't think she's at all memorable at the moment. Hopefully she'll improve.

I wonder how much choice the contestants really get when picking their songs though? And what happens if two contestants pick the same song - how do they decide? One thing that has seemed clear to me this week is how important song choice is - a very well known popular song must be a big vote winner compared to a more obscure song most people aren't aware of.

I have always thought that contestants do not just chose. Plus a lot more manipulation happens behind close doors. At the end their favourites who they want to win the competition are treated fairly. By given them popular songs which the public knows.

So, for Syesha we may never see what she can do. Also I am always suspicious when they tell the contestants that they have 'pitch problems' when it could be the sabotage from the band. However, I have seen enough of Syesha on line to convince me that she has a lot of talent. But on AI it may never be realised because of the politics of the show.

I was going to say the same thing - Nadia was my favourite but for some reason she didn't get the public support. I liked what she sung, but I like to hear something less well known so am probably in a minority.

Why aren't people voting en masse for Syesha? Well, she's a good looking girl with a great pair o' pins, a beautiful smile and oozes confidence, she dresses well, has charm and charisma...the exact traits that turn the (largely female) voters off (in Britain at least - very rare for females to win talent shows) - jealousy is a terrible thing! But I could be wrong, I'm not sure how the votes are split along gender lines in the US, it could just be that Simon's right, she hasn't found the perfect song to showcase her awesome vocals, and is scraping through at the moment on the potential she has showed so far.

She needs to have a performance like the one she did during Hollywood week when she was ill, that blew me away, she really gave it everything to stay in the competition and we haven't yet seen that same passion from her in these final stages.
