He isnt, but he comes with hype due to his association with Eminem and there are many people out there who are led by the media, ie they buy simply what they are told to buy.
Of course if you dont buy 50 cents stuff you wont be a real Eninem fan will you? Catch my drift?

You're right, it's the hype. Hype ruins everything! I hate that 4 lettererd word. If I hear that anything is hyped I make a mental note to avoid it. (Unless it's related with Harry Potter)
As for Eminem, unless he comes up with something original soon (that businness song, i mean come on, YAWN, he's done it all before) his level of popularity could start decreasing maybe. Hopefully. |

I agree about The White Stripes. I don't particular dislike them or anything but their songs always seem to just wash over me. Then you read the reviews about them telling you how great they are, but their music just doesn't back this up IMO.
They're like a middling Nationwide League football team who've suddenly found themselves playing in the Champion's League. Or something...

Anyway, back to my feelings on overrated artists. Radiohead are feted far too much by the press without thought to how good their music actually is these days. Likewise the Manics, who are basically going through the motions. As far as The White Stripes are concerned, i agree - their music just washes over me. It does nothing whatsoever to suggest the immense number of fawning column inches is justified. Maybe it's just me, but this whole nu-lo-fi-retro-punk scene is like listening to Stars On 45 recordings of The Clash. It leaves me totally cold. The Strokes, the White Stripes, the Hives et al are the epitome of style over substance. They're just boybands for indie kids. |

Jemini, 50 Cent and almost without exception, all the rap 'artists'
Nelly deserves a special mention, as does Craig David |

He had everything done for him, told what to wear, all songs wrote for him and his voice whilst being good was not remarkable, (otherwise how come there are 1000's of impersonators out there who sound just like him?) His image just improved because of the sudden and unexpected death which was a shock to everyone, but what was he in 1977? just a cabaret singer in Vegas - if he were alive today he would rated no more than someone like Tom Jones. |

Tupac is hardly current. But yes, Him and Biggy were both really overrated.
and yes, he is dead. There are plenty of questions as to why he died... But rumours persist that it was Biggy and the police... and Biggy was also shot and killed in revenge... but nothing has ever been substantiated. |
