There is a theme possibly emerging here.

I note the OP is in Cambridgeshire. But the successful posters are in London (Crystal Palace? (CP)) and off Emley Moor (MLM).

The recording start is taken from the "running status" flag changing in EITpf (Event Information Table present/following) or Now & Next, and AFAIR this is inserted at the region.

Therefore, possibly, the regional transmux is failing to update EITpf. More instances need reporting as this theory could be a complete red herring!

SL worked OK from Sudbury (Suffolk).

I live in Sittingbourne, Kent and my signal comes from Bluebell hill. Ashes to ashes recorded last night but started during the bit that shows whats happened in previous shows. Was about 30-40 seconds late.

Yup, spot on. Recording started I guess 4-5 seconds before programme start, and ran on for maybe a minute or so afterwards. Seems the local transmitters are doing their own thing?

This is all very interesting, thanks folks!

It does indeed look like the regional transmitter feeds are doing different things!

more evidence please! Particularly of where in the programme recording started.

Thanks for the replies - however, my original problem was that it failed to record at all, and when |I looked in the recording schedules list, it still had last week's date, so SL hadn't picked up the next episode - obviously it worked for everyone else.

I've now deleted it and re-instated it from the EPG and will keep an eye out in future.

Are you sure it was on in your region. Up in Scotland they showed the Rangers game i think and Ashes is being shown on Sunday

Yes, ashes to ashes was shifted to Sunday in Scotland. I didn't trust the series link so selected it again. I've had series link problems with Dexter and Harry Hill, but ab solutely fine on ITV3 with Numb3rs which moved around agood bit.

Hi

Failed here as well, Emley Moor.

We didn't get Ashes to Ashes or Catherine Tate, both for 9pm and both failed.

Regards

Emley Moor
Started right on the BBC1 logo as they announced the programme. Finished, 2 minutes after the credits.

Yes it was - I spotted that it wasn't recording and did a manual - missed first few minutes, though.

SL failed for me - Emley Moor transmitter.

What time/program is it on Sunday as I'll watch it on Sky?

It recorded for me on Emley Moore and Software .21

Can't tell you the accuracy as I watched it on a Virgin Media box so deleted from the humax without viewing.

So, the question is, why doesn't SL always work - It's not a problem with the broadcast data or else it would fail for everyone. If it's a region/transmitter issue, then I would expect more instances being reported. I don't think it's a signal problem either - I've got line of sight with Sandy Heath 3 miles away.

So why does it sometines just not pick up the next episode?

It happened with Casualty last Saturday as well.

Despite this, my box tried to record it while the game was on (Blackhill, Central Scotland transmitter), so presumably the flag was sent in error here. EPG and N&N had the updated schedule.

A bit odd that you didn't get the new schedule. I too am in Scotland, I'm actually on the Craigkelly tranmitter in Fife but it shows up as Blackhill (I believe Craigkelly is 'just' a repeater/relay of Black Hill to get round some the hills in the area).

Twice now some silly tv program of boys running around bits of grass kicking something has replaced Ashes to Ashes. Both time my trusty Hummy waited patiently until the appointed time the following Sunday when it faithfully recorded it. Bit of a waste really, as I was home watching the program live both times! BUT IT WORKED!!

I don't think that Craigkelly broadcasts anything different to Black Hill, just does a frequency shift so as not to get the signals confused with the weaker Black Hill signals that stray into the area.

The normal way of distributing the BBC DTT muxes is for the Region (Brum for me) or Nation (Glasgow for you) to send it via a BT 140 Mbs digital pipe to the "main transmitter" (Black Hill). Here is is fed to a Remultiplexer together with the Service Information (SI) stream from London. This SIPSI as its known (Service Insertion Point for Service Information) then feeds all transmitters in the Region/Nation. Remote txrs are fed via BT 140Mbs pipes again.

BBC Nations have their own Coding and Multiplexing ( C & M) kit to make up the complete Multiplex themselves. BBC Regions "Drop and Insert" BBC1 to adding this to a bundle of BBC2/3/CBBC/N24 from London C & M.

So if Craigkelly does AR so should Black Hill. Suggests Black Hill poster may not have AR set?

To clarify my earlier post, the EPG from Blackhill showed the updated BBC1 Scotland schedule, with the football match. I was assuming that the (EITpf?) flag wasn't changed, causing the scheduled recording to start.

I've deleted the schedule (not a fan of the new series) but I'm pretty sure it was series-linked, as are most of my scheduled recordings. This is the first time I've seen it record something wrong and assumed it must be something in the feed. The poster from Fife suggests otherwise. Is it possible that I'd already deleted the schedule but the flag remained in the Humax's own tables and didn't get updated when the schedule changed? Or could that updated flag have simply not reached me due to errors in transmission? Anyway, recording the odd unwanted programmes isn't something to worry about.
