Picture distortion

I have a bit of a weird problem with my humax at the moment with a slight picture distortion. Sometimes there appears to be a slight lag in the picture in some areas, it is like look looking through and old piece of glass, you get a sort of ripple effect in some areas. It is quite noticeable on a close up shot of a face, as the face moves slightly, you see will perhaps see the nose move in relation to all the other facial features as they have moved but the nose hasn't. This has occurred on multiple episodes of The Palace that were recorded fairly recently and also on the film Dragonheart that was recorded a while ago.

I bought my humax approx 23 months ago, but it was replaced after about 11 months. I am running the latest version of software .21 and did carry out a default after the update

If anyone has any ideas what the problem might be it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

What's the sound like ? Is it only recordings ?
I've seen similar - actually last night Virgin1 - Rescues 2100-2200. Two episodes were set to record on a Tevion PVR801, but one didn't record - a 1Mb (empty) file in the recordings list and the other was much shorter than expected, 151Mb as opposed to about 500Mb.
There is video data missing, and as the recording is played back the image shifts uncomfortably along displaying what it can, but large areas aren't filled in.

The sound has been fine and i have only noticed it on recordings, but i never really watch live TV since i bought the humax, it is all recorded or at best chase played. I will have a check on today and see if its affecting normal TV viewing.

Thanks

Are you viewing this on a HDTV?

This sounds like 'tearing' (or something related) problem when SD source get upscaled for a HD output device...

It is best to turn off all the 'smart digital processing' the LCD TV does... (I believe this is called the XD Engine on the LG.)
