Is there a thread for this already? Is ALW gilding the lily with yet another "Lets find a lead for a musical via making money through phone votes" yet again!!

I think it's less about getting money for phone votes as it is getting months of weekly publicity for the shows.
That said, I am looking forward to it. I am glad to see that there is not going to be a public vote for the Oliver role, only for the Nancy role. |

Why is there no public vote for Oliver, CBBC has had simalar roles on their shows by voting by the public.

which CBBC roles have been voted for like that?
I think it's cause they don't think children crying is suitable prime time Saturday night viewing... |

Plus I don't want to watch children being rejected by the public infront of x million viewers - it is just not good TV. |

More likely to get people "sympathy voting" for kids I reckon.

They may have well just called the show Nancy cos the whole premise of selling this show to the audience was we are voting for Nancy and Oliver whereas the Oliver role is now just being sidelined when it is the most important role in the show. I think they should have concentrated looking for a Bill Sykes and Nancy instead if they are afraid of the kids crying.

![]() I suppose they think they have to have Oliver cause its the lead role and for those who don't know the musical, if it was just Nancy and Bill Sykes they might think "who?!" |

cant wait for this show! half 7 bbc 1 tonight right??
are they gonna be showing us the little boys 2 or just the girls? i read that ALW wasn't looking for a Connie Fisher-esque, but rather someone more like Amy Winehouse for Nancy... |

Yeah, we have a thread
. I'm glad to hear ALW's not looking for Connie Fisher mark II. Connie Fisher would be a deplorable Nancy, she's far too prim. Nancy's a tough girl who has had a tough life ![]() Yep, the public booting of the baby Olivers would make very uncomfortable TV. I imagine they'll wheel them out occasionally to perform on the show and we'll keep an eye on their progress. It's too boring a part to hold an entire TV series like this. You just need to pick the sweetest, tiniest, most vulnerable little boy you have and hope to the Lord he can sing and dance. Anyway, I can't wait.

What utter PC nonsense about the "Oliver" vote.
Kids have been on shows since TV existed and been publically voted off. It reall is a case of PC gone mad!

To be fair, the part of Oliver isn't very good in the play. Fagin and Nancy are the main characters, with Dodger having a slightly better part than Oliver. Well in my opinion anyway...

What's the "kick the loser off" song at the end of each week going to be?
"Consider yourself ... not in the family" "As long as you ... don't ... need me"

You certainly need a good set of lungs to play Nancy.
In Omm Puppa you have you sing over a full cast singing a different backing. |

Ooh, I just saw someone I used to teach! I noticed her in the last 20 in Maria, and she's obviously trying out for this too. She does have a good voice, and I'd have thought she's definitely more of a Nancy than a Maria, so it'll be interesting to see how she does.
