Well, guys I am new to this whole forum thing, but having read what some of you had to say, what you thought, and your comments I felt I should enlighten you somewhat, well as much as I can.
First of all with regard to Jodie, I can say on her behalf, that she is a genuine and caring lovely girl, yes she is what some might call extra!!! But wether or not you like her or not, what is essential that you remember is that she is exactly as you see her on TV as she is in everyday life, she is a constant bubble of energy full of life and enthusiasm and always cracking a joke, she doesn't take herself too seriously, so whether or not you like it, know this.... it is all for real, none of it is fake or for the cameras, it is just her, but this is the point of TV shows like this, you get to know people personally, where as you never get to do that usually, so a lot of our favourite actors and performers etc could possibly really annoy the shit out of us if we got a chance to get to know them, but we dont. As Jodie says her self, she is like MARMITE, you either love her or you hate her, and I hate Marmite, but I love Jodie, and whether or not she makes it as Nancy, her talent is for real, she is a great performer and it will show on the live shows.
Secondly, some of you have already picked your faves, and that is great and interesting to see, but the fact is you have only seen about 6 of the 42 girls to get through to NANCY SCHOOL perform, all I will say is, just wait and see who else there is, and dont think because someone has got a lot of footage, that, that automatically means they have got through to the last 12,or even 20, if you do that some of you will be dissapointed, I can tell you now that there are some of the final 12, that did not feature at all on that first show. I do not want to spoil the show or the surprise for you guys but It is a TV show at the end of the day and therefore editing plays a big part, I know there are some fab girls, with amazing talents who could have been a Nancy but did not make it to the final 20, that will probably not feature on the programme at all, because quite simply, they didn;t have much of a story, there were no dramatics to speak (or if there were maybe they just wanted to keep thier private life private) they were just normal girls, doing thier thing, but maybe in TV world that equates as boring TV.
I noticed some of you had comments about the way auditions were done and the things people sang.
Let me clarify this.... you had to prepare a Musical Theatre song and a contemporary pop/rock song. They then had to sing a choice of two of the NANCY numbers from the show aswell. So a lot of the 42 audition snippets are 30 seconds of footage from a 5-10 minute audition and if someone is singing a pop/rock number that is just the snippet and they would have also sang, a Nancy Number and a Musical Theatre number. This is done because on the live shows they will have to sing from all different genres as not only will the winner play Nancy but will always start a career in MT which is full of shows with all different genres, so versatility brings some longevity to a career.
Also this audtion was for undiscovered talent yes!!! But that does not been no professional performers could apply for this role, undiscovered, does not mean unemployed in the business, this was for trained and untrained, employed unemployed, basically anyone could apply, but not just anyone got through, there are 1000's of professional performers who work in the west end, who have done for years, but they never get the chance for a lead role, they are always ensemble or always a cover, dont get me wrong I think those people are very lucky to be employed full stop, but that does not mean they do not have the right to go for a lead role. Sometimes you get put up for a private audition but the casting director does not want to see you, so you miss out, but then if they decide to an open, you can still go and show them and say this is what you didnt want to see, and sometimes you are inluck and you get a recall, so it is always worth a chance if you think you are right for the part.
The girls who got through to Nancy School were a mix of trained and untrained, professional and amateur performers, some with West End experience some with None, it was a genuine mix.
Like any open audition it is open to anyone, and just because you may be in a West End show, that does not mean there was any way to avoid the audition process. If anyone wanted the chance to play the part of NANCY in the new production of Oliver, this was THE ONLY WAY, to be seen and considered for the part. Some people found it out for themselves some peoples Agents told them about it, but they still had to queue up like everyone else to be seen, believe me , I know!!!!!!!! A lot of West Enders went up, some didnt get past the first rounds, some did! You will see anyway.
Another subject that has been raised is that of Francesca, having been in the West End production as Bet to Siona Swabys Nancy, having known and lived with Connie Fisher, being friends with Denise after playing her Lover in Rent etc etc, I am not suprised this has come out, they wont deny it at all, but they also wont advertise it either, but it is all readily available info on the Net, as much as Denise has said she remains impartial etc etc, she has got a bit of a upper hand, but lets not take away Francescas Talent, she can act and sing as you will see, but other elements will come into play in the next edition of the show and it is then that I will be interested to know what peoples reaction is to Francescas place in the show, because things did not follow the normal process, anyways we will see how it turns out in the next show this Saturday.
I wait with baited breath, and am so excited to watch the live shows.
