I think its the fact that the Oliver auditionees are nearly all from privileged backgrounds that has completely turned me off this part of the show. It made a mockery of what ALW said he wanted one week previously and it annoys the hell out of me because it is so predictable.
I'm probably bitter because when Harry Potter came to town recently for some filming (Gloucester) - who did Warner Brothers ask to audition as extras? Solely pupils from King's (the local private school 3-4 grand a term) and a few older girls from the girl's grammar school.
My daughter and a couple of friends (from local comp) actually attended the King's Stage School every Saturday(open to plebs, surprisingly) but they weren't even given an opportunity nor were members of any local youth theatre group (unless they were already privileged enough to go to the private school.)
Well I'm watching the same process again via 'the Lord'. Perhaps he thinks that if they don't go to Eton or Harrow then they are 'street'?

Also, the impression given from the limited exposure of the Oliver auditionees is that the majority seem to be from very well heeled families and independent schools. This seems to be at odds with ALW's interview when he inferred that they are seeking rough tough street type kids eg Jamie Bell?
Oliver had been brought up in a cruel orphanage, none of the sweet adorable little boys we have been allowed to see so far are close to that image.”
