AlanO - No one would accept 14 months as a reasonable lifespan for a new TV. No one.

duffystev - I would think that if you put enough effort into fighting your case with currys (make a big scene in the store), they would agree.

1. Get an engineer's report to establish the fault and cost to remedy (the report will cost approx £55 but can be claimed back).

2. Phone Currys customer service and lodge the complaint.

3. Pay to get the TV repaired and ensure you keep all receipts and job sheets.

4. Once the repair is completed, sent copies of all payments made to the repairers to Currys.

5. Usually within about 7 days you will receive a cheque from Currys re-imbursing you for all out of pocket expenses.

Hope this helps.”

That's exactly what Currys have told me to do but with this rider.

"Upon receipt of the engineers report, if the fault is found to be a manufacturers fault, we would
consider a repair and reimburse you the cost of the engineers report. "

I have now emailed them and told them that is not acceptable and I require a refund and that I am prepared to take them to court.

Spoken to Ohmsupplies. Checked this morning power supply has blown up. Am sending it to them today.

Hello duffstev - hope they've not run out of stock - although I might get yours back refurbished - mines going the same way soon.

One minor technical query - did you just connect it to the mains and then look for output voltages from the card at the various output jacks?

I went back to Currys yesterday and the guy said - 'don't forget you've had nearly 20 months of trouble free viewing' - 'we can send our engineer round for an £85 checkup'!!!

I phoned the head office later and they said I could get an independent engineer round to write a report and IF they agreed with his findings they've look at the situation.

I wonder if they realise that it's the last TV I'll ever buy from them - and I hope many on this forum take the same view.

My only worry now is that I did buy a 26" Logik from them last November - I'm starting the old 20 month countdown.

The local TV repair man wouldn't touch the power unit but did offer a good discount on a Panasonic.

Didn't check any voltages. Obvious that PS was knackered, blown fuse and some disoloured components.

Some good news. No reply at all from Currys but Ohmsupplies have repaired the power supply for £53.

Great service and good comms from this company.

Pity a major retailer like Currys treat you like sh**e. Have emailed them twice in the last weeks without reply.

Good to hear that your Logik is now up and running - my power lump will be in the post to ohmsupplies later this week.

from what I see, the LCD TVs are quite new technology with many parts not being tired and tested.

I bought a cheap one but sometimes it would come on with sound and no picture. It went back and I got a refund even though I could turn it off and then on to get it going.

Seems that this is one of many many common faults that can occur.

If I do buy again I will make sure its one with a 3 year warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have a slightly better chance with an expensive set but without the 3 year warranty the risk is tripled!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is with CHEAP LCD sets, you pay your money you take your choice.

As i've mentioned before if you think £600 is cheap that's OK. It's not cheap to me a retired person.
I have to say the picture quality on the Logik is superb and far better than the Grundig.

Anyway, Ohmsupplies have given great service and TV is now back in service.
Grundig TV bought as quick replacement is on its way back to Tesco today.

Just phoned Currys. They have no record of my complaint. It would seem that if you threaten them with court action they just delete you from the system. I have kept all the emails so they can't deny I was in their system. Shower of Ba****ds.

It wasn't a cheap TV for another retired person either!!

We paid £799 for ours in July 2006 - and Currys suggested that we'd "had 20 months of trouble free service" - the picture was great until 2 weeks ago - now the power unit is off to Liverpool.

Good luck with the "Shower of Ba****ds"

But when considered against a well known brand such as Panasonic that were selling at about £1149-1199 for a 32" at the same time £799 is a cheap set.

I did have some sympathy with you. But, just to get this right, your TV went faulty and ypu replaced it with one from another supplier.

Then you managed to get the faulty one repaired cheaply ( and I'll agreee maybe FOC)

However ....

Now you expect the supplier to refund the fully working replacement because you don't need it any more.

Frankly I hope they tell you've got to keep it. You may be sore about your treatment by one supplier, but don't take it out on another.

Of course it's cheap for what you're getting, how much would a 32" widescreen TV have cost you 30 years ago? (I know they weren't around then).

It's all relative to what you're buying, £10,000 is a lot of money but that's unbelievably cheap for a house.

My house was less than that!

I didn't expect anything. Tesco have a 28 day replacement policy. Had I not used this website I would't have known a company could repair my power supply and would have accepted the loss. The picture quality from the Grundig was poor
I explained this to the customers sevices and they agreed to give me a refund.
I use Tesco for my shopping, phone and car insurance but Currys are a disgrace. Call their bluff and all your complaints have suddenly dissapeared from the system.
"I have nothing for your name or this address" I still have the emails so they are a lying shower of ba***ds..
At least the supermarket appeciate the customer. It can't be said for Currys who have now decided I don't excist.

My 'cheap' £799 - 32" Logik LCD TV is up and running again - no thanks to the people at Currys who felt that I should be grateful to have had '20 months trouble free viewing' - Ohmsupplies repaired the power unit - by return for £45 plus p+p - Currys wanted £85 just to look!!!

Ohmsupplies are great. Currys wanted £180 before they even started. Took me 1/2 hour to remove and package power supply and i'm not a TV engineer.

I have written to Currys and told they what I think. Will never use them again.
